What should I play next?

Post by graffix_13 »

I didn't see this topic on the first 10 pages, so I apologize if there is already a thread on this.

Anyways...I am on a Playstation 2 kick. I feel like I missed A LOT of great games on the system, so I want to go back and play what I missed. The period (2000-2006) was just a time in my life where video games weren't a priority of mine.

So looking for some advice on what games I should make a priority to play. First up is Shadow of the Colossus. I am definitely playing this first, but after that I am undecided. I really like all genres, so I'm not set on a particular one. Here is what I have on my "want list":

- Shadow of Rome- This looks AWESOME. Playing as a Roman gladiator? Yes, please. Looks ultra violent and gameplay sounds fun.

- Timesplitters 2- I've heard great things about this. Do I need the Gun Remote to play this though? I can't find any solid info on this. How is the gameplay and story?

- Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4- I haven't played a skating game since.....well, Skate or Die on NES. This one is rated high on Metacritic (whatever thats worth).

- Toyko Xtreme Racer Drift 2- Sounds like a fun racing game.

- Outrun 2006 Coast 2 Coast- Another fun racing game. Arcade style?

- Kill. Switch- Looks like a TPS, cover based game. Looks fun. Is it?

- Killer 7- This game looks REALLY good.

- Heatseeker- Looks like a fun, arcade style jet flying game.

- Skygunner- A shooter.

- Zone of Enders- 2nd Runner- A Mech combat game. The Zone of Enders games looks fun.

- Drakan: Ancient Gates- Looks like you're flying on a dragon as well as fighting on the ground. A fantasy action/adventure game.

- The Warriors- Definitely going to play this.

- Gun- Is this a better Western than Red Dead Revolver?

- Red Dead Revolver- Is this a better Western than Gun?

- Psychonauts- This is suppose to be an underrated gem.

- Mark of Kri- Looks cartoonish, but I don't mind. As long as it's fun?

As you can see, a big list. I'd like to eventually play/buy all of these. I first wanted to play the best ones first, as I tend to have ADD when it comes to video games.

What's the cream of the crop?

I would probably have to recommend Timesplitters 2. It's a very solid game well worth trying out. The story is pretty interesting since you travel back in time to multiple eras each of which has it's own story and theme. It also has really good multiplayer which supports bots.

It doesn't require any special controllers just a standard PS2 Dualshock.

I can say I enjoyed Mark of Kri is fun. It does look cartoony, but earns the M rating. I would go with the Warriors first. I love that game, mostly because I love the movie  . It gives more of a back story to the movie.
Some I would add
  • Downhill Domination
  • Gungrave 1 and 2
  • Rise of Kasai (sequal to Kri)
  • Shinobi
  • Blood Will Tell
  • Devil May Cry
Just some that I loved from that era

The Mark of Kri may look like a Don Bluth cartoon, but it is one of the most violent games on the PS2. It also has a great combat engine, and since you can beat the game in about 5 hours, it never wears out its welcome. I highly recommend it, andI think you should play it next.

I also will back The Mark of Kri. And just you wait until you start dismembering folks, then you'll see why it got that M rating. It's not long, but it is a lot of fun.

Wow, lot's of love for Mark of Kri. Cartoon dismemberment? Sounds....fantastic.

So, Mark of Kri > Shadow of Rome?

Yep, that's another one I've heard good things on. I'll add that to my list.

War of Monsters is another.

Gun- Is this a better Western than Red Dead Revolver?
Didn't even notice this on your list. Yes this is much better then Red Dead Revolver. It's actually a lot more similar to Red Dead Redemption then Red Dead Revolver is.

Just think of it as GTA set in the Wild West. Has a decent story, great gun play, interesting characters, and the horse riding is very well done. Probably one of my favorite Third Person Shooters of the PS2 era. Think I have played it through 3-4 times now.

It's another game which earned it's M rating you can blow limbs off and scalp people.

Another series to look into is the Prince of Persia Sands of Time Trilogy. Love those games and they are well worth trying out if you haven't played them yet.
