Am I The Only Sucker For An HD Remake?
Re: Am I The Only Sucker For An HD Remake?
I hardly consider any of the Ps3's HD ports to be remakes. They use the same engine, same assets, and even same controls, they are ports... HD ports, with wide screen resolution.
Anyway i like them, thanks to them you can have the whole series in one console (im going for god of war and devil may cry). Also in my country you NEVER EVER see a retail copy of a ps2 game (great amount of piracy over here) so that is another reason i like the hd ports, i can finally own them legally.

Yeah, I tend to rather call them "ports", upgraded, remastered, whatever.
I'm a big fan. I missed out on a lot of those PS2 trilogies and other stuff and it's been an amazing way to get so many games for amazing prices and beef up my collection quickly. I'm kind of a sucker for resolution thesedays too and get a little picky about how good some stuff looks on my HDTV, so with these HD releases that's nothing I really have to worry about.
It was kind of funny playing a lot of PS2 era games on the PC, the process was pretty much the same thing. Superior framerates, resolution, less loading screens usually, etc, it made up for a better experience for sure and I'm sure that's the case here too with some HD releases.
Keep them coming I say. Easy money for publishers and all I'm sure, but it's not much different than say those classic arcade/retro collections 90% of us probably keep buying over and over again despite owning it on the original consoles or other collections of the same thing across multiple systems... phew!

Also yeah, as others said I really like them for consistency sake too, being able to easily play a trilogy or more on the same console, better yet a newer console that has gen-later sequels and all. So it's amazing to have it all kind of be all-in-one.

I don't want FF X-2 HD
I am buying all Saturn games, PM me with your offerings and I will let you know if I need the game or not! (Everything must be CIB)
Currently trying to knock off all the sports games, would like to get them <$5 each! Of course if you would like to donate them I will gladly pay the shipping!

I'm not a sucker for them, but I've always thought they were a good idea. A lot of gamers are jaded about "cash cows", I say more stuff on the market, better for the consumer.
Aside from that, some HD remakes are great because they enhance framerate issues, which in turn improves game play (shadow of the colossus is the best example I can think of, its framerate is really bad on the PS2).
Plus, most HD remakes are usually collections, and no one has ever complained about collections in the past!

I am a fan for the simple reason they can open a new generation to older games and kinda keep them alive for a little longer. A lot of us play for the nostalgia and growing up with the games, but new gamers didn't. Take the ICO/SofC collection. It could open up some younger gamers to other PS2 games and further down the rabbit hole.
Re: Am I The Only Sucker For An HD Remake?
I really like HD collections over all. The only "downside" to them really is that sometimes an HD collection comes out in which some (or all) of the games in the collection are games I already own. But I always feel like I need the best version of a game, so I buy them anyways and then it makes me feel guilty for buying the same game(s) twice and devaluing my PS2 collection.
The PS4 and XBox One should be able to easily play those games on max settings, excluding a few of the more frivolous high end tweaks like anti aliasing and such. It will only be at 30 fps of course, but that's perfectly playable.Hazerd wrote:How can the Metro games be re-mastered, like the PS4 or Xboner wouldnt play them at Medium i bet, you need a pretty killer PC to play them at Max the way it is.
Im not going to buy a PS4 or Xboner for remakes, i want something new and original.
I feel old when talking to anyone my age yet too inexperienced to effectively talk to anyone older. Life is grand that way.

Oh wow, I still need to pick this collection up. Never beat Ico either.Violent By Design wrote:Aside from that, some HD remakes are great because they enhance framerate issues, which in turn improves game play (shadow of the colossus is the best example I can think of, its framerate is really bad on the PS2).
