Has Vista gotten any better?

I've been thinking about installing Vista again to see if its improved from last year. When I first got my computer it had Vista and sucked so I installed XP but I stupidly forgot to backup the drivers I downloaded. I want to try it out again, but once I install Vista again I can't get the drivers if I want to install XP again. Is it worth it? Or is there a trustworthy place to download drivers for a Toshiba Satellite laptop? Any help would be much appreciated thanks.

I have no problems with it. You definately need to have 2G of ram to run it. If you have older programs or accessories i would make sure they are supported by vista. Another new service pack is coming out soon, i think its in beta now.. I would wait until that comes out and see if there are any problems with that before upgrading (if you could call it that). Why do you want to switch back to vista? If everything you do is supported by XP there really isnt anything special, that I use anyway, to separate the two OSs

what i can tell you from my now like 13 years of experience using computers on almost daily basis is that:

Windows is around the worst operating system you can use. Even DOS is better.

Of course some knowledge-less guy would say, how is that possible when you have video and GUI and internet on windows. Truth is, windows gives you more option and capabilities but its how it functions.

I can give you a 1930's car, with a steering wheel , gear, engine that works 100%. I can give you a current bmw with GPS, CD player, AC, ABS , but they all mul-function and need constant repair. So which is the better dependable car?

After XP windows became livable, but you have better options like mac os and maybe linux(never tested it) , but windows is just around the worst choice, so why you want to go back to using it?

it works, but there are better non-headache options. I am sure a lot of vista worries got fixed since its release, but from what we know of microsoft, when did it ever mean fixing issues means no more trouble?

Definitely*. Although i don't have any clue about your laptop or for laptops in general. If your laptop has less than 2GB Ram i say stay with XP. Also i don't know for driver support either.

IMO if you have the hardware Vista is now "better" than XP.

However if you are satisfied with XP and don't want any possible headaches and/or your laptop isn't very powerful i suggest to just stay with XP.

Well, he is right that DOS is more stable than Vista. I don't think that shocks anyone here.

Really, for Vista, if you have a machine with enough RAM, it is prettier than XP, and has some nice features, but nothing gamebreaking. From a gaming perspective there also isn't a real difference between Vista and XP at this time.

I went from XP 32 to Vista 64, so I ran into multiple kinds of problems with old stuff, but I was expecting it. DosBox is my friend, and I have an old Win 98 box I still use for the tempermental stuff like Mechwarrior 2.

Honestly, I'd recommend you give Vista another shot if your machine has the RAM. But at the end of the day it's still a Windows machine. The differences between Windows 95 and Vista are not all that pronounced.

Sorry but i strongly disagree. The NT core is way better than the 9x core. Only for that the difference between 95 and Vista (and other NT based OSes) is huge. Perhaps that statement can be said if you are compare XP with Vista but not with a Windows OS that uses the 9x core.

Oh and one thing i forgot to mention is that i use the x86 version of Vista, never tried the x64 one.

Dude, just stick with XP. It requires less resources to run, ergo your system will run better. I've seen no real benefit in my switch to Vista apart from the Media centre capabilties of it. If I didn't use my pc as a media server I would still be on XP,which when tested on the same system is considerably faster.

I have no problem with vista. People need to get used to new operating systems, you will be using them when you get to industry.

I can't speak to Vista's technical pros and cons but I actually really like vista. I've completely gotten used to it and would probably feel awkward using another OS now. In terms of gaming, I'm able to run all of my emulators as well as just about every retro pc game I own. Really not many complaints from me.
