Re: Nintendo 3DS
I started playing Ridge Racer 3D today, and I'd put it up there with the best 3DS games. RR seems to be the ideal 3D game - very simple controls, developer controls viewport, player's eyes always focused on horizon. It's no more detailed than the PSP version, but the frame rate is very smooth in 3D mode.
So far it handles really well. Racetracks and music seem inferior to the PSP version, but still better than any other 3DS racer except maybe F1 - I haven't played that. It's well-suited to the 3DS controls, since it just requires x-axis controls and a gas button.
Dirt cheap and totally recommended.

Re: Nintendo 3DS
Sounds well worth checking out. Does that one have online play by chance?

Re: Nintendo 3DS
No, but there is local multiplayer. You should be able to buy two carts for $16 and you'll have no trouble finding a friend to play 3DS games with you.
As always, the first 7 GPs were easy for me. I haven't played very much of it yet.
Instead of selectable difficulty levels, Ridge Racer games just make each level of the GP slightly harder. The first ones are slow and forgiving so the beginner can figure out what's going on, but the later ones get really tense. One mistake will wreck the race. There's a lot of interaction with other cars - tailgating, trying to get inside their drift, trying to steal their speed, etc - so adding tons of human players could make the game really interesting.
Ridge Racer is getting released on everything lately. Even the DS had a port of RR64
I was a little surprised when it wasn't a launch title for PS4 and XB1.

So thanks to 100+ hours of Mario Kart 7, I've completely worn out my R shoulder button. Anyone else run into this problem before, and how'd you go about fixing it?

On my XL, my R button is getting a bit squeeky but still springy as it was when new.
Older. Not wiser.

Sorry, regular. Responds maybe 30% of the time when I try and drift.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:On an XL or regular?SNESdrunk wrote:So thanks to 100+ hours of Mario Kart 7, I've completely worn out my R shoulder button. Anyone else run into this problem before, and how'd you go about fixing it?

Re: Nintendo 3DS
I remember having that problem after playing Mario Kart on my GBASP. That was definitely the best Mario Kart game. I also delivered the death blow to my PSP with Project Diva.
The PSP's buttons were easy enough to replace. I wish Nintendo would make their handhelds more durable, and more easily serviceable.

This is actually one thing that concerns me about handhelds in general now that I've gotten alot more into them than I used to be. With a console you just buy a new controller if you wear it down too much whereas a handheld costs a bit more obviously.
Needless to say, I baby my 3DSXL, PSP, and Vita.

*sigh* Still waiting on DQ VII... and Rocket Slime 3... and the Dragon Warrior Monsters remake...
The amount of localizations have really lagged for this system; it's kind of perplexing because the DS got nearly e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g.

Re: Nintendo 3DS
You would think the demand for Dragon Quest VII would be pretty high. I would love to be able to play I through VII on handhelds someday!
And yeah the amount of RPGs we got on DS is pretty insane. We missed out on a few like 7th Dragon, Soma Bringer, Ys Strategy, Archaic Sealed Heat, and Shining Force Feather..... but it's hard to complain - especially when the system is region-free.
Hoping we see a flood of JRPGs on both 3DS and Vita soon.
