Re: The State of Racketboy?
Is it just me, or people not really posting as much? I feel like it's just the same twenty or so of us on here regularly, with a new face now and then.

Speaking of new faces, that new guy darsparx has made a couple hundred posts in the past week, so he seems to be picking up the slack.Retrogamer0001 wrote:Is it just me, or people not really posting as much? darsparx, if you're reading this, I'm only teasing, not criticizing.
To seriously answer the question though, that's usually how its been from my perspective. You'll have the handful of post every day regulars, the slightly less regular regulars (who will rotate in and out of the first group), and then everybody else who will come and go at long stretches. It does get slow sometimes, so maybe this is one of those times.
Lately I browse the board every single day to see what's up, but I only pop in to make a post or two once in a while. I've been distracted from games by a variety of other things recently and just haven't had much to say. I imagine I'm not the only one who does that.
Anyway, folks will come back around. I noticed a couple of old faces showing up again recently after a long absence.

Yeah, I think they have slowed down. I think it may be due in part to the fact that retro gaming has become so mainstream that there's less need to find a dedicated retro gaming forum. That, and some of our past regulars have left/been banned.Retrogamer0001 wrote:Is it just me, or people not really posting as much? I think some of the regulars are busier than they used to so they don't post as much. I'm a pretty good example, I think

This is pretty much me! Video games are taking the backseat to other life-stuff... but I'm still (att least briefly) checking the board daily.CFFJR wrote:Lately I browse the board every single day to see what's up, but I only pop in to make a post or two once in a while. Re: The State of Racketboy?
It's not just racketboy that loses people, all forums feel this right now. Social media has taken away a lot of forum necessity in general. In the Fighting Game community, posting on forums used to be the best/primary way to contact and communicate with other players. But you had to register at and log into so many different forums for so many different games/types of games, a lot of people deemed it a hassle etc.
So now that FB has the same abilities and allows you to post something one time and allow multiple circles of friends see/not see it, being able to log in from any device and post something any time and integration of your profile into so many different services.... forums in general just lose out on that front. Meaning you will see the disappearance of many types of posters aside from the most devout or hardcore. I've witnessed the destruction of several FG communities because of the laziness and centralization that FB and other social media breed.
Just the way of the beast.
Anyways, i think RB has a healthier community than most forums nowadays. I still see tons of quality posters here and almost every forum section has new posts daily. Which is why I joined here

You say that like it is a bad thing.Retrogamer0001 wrote:Is it just me, or people not really posting as much? I feel like it's just the same twenty or so of us on here regularly, with a new face now and then.
I'm kidding.
But I'm not.
I'd post more if I had more to say, or the time to say it. Regardless of "how long I'm logged in" (somehow I'm logged in even when my pc is off) I'm definitely not on here as much as I used to be.
Big Reason Why: There has been a constant drift away from retro gaming on this site in the past several years. Look at the popularity of the xbone and ps4 threads. Look at the games beaten thread. Even the Together Retro thread focuses on games that can be too obscure for the regular gamer.
Because of that, most of my "contributions" include posting a list of the games I've beaten this year, trying to get some charity a kick start, or giving some good news/bad news/general advice. Well, that and screwing around with Dish and co.
'Still a great site and forum, but lacks the oomph it had in the early 2010's. But this is the only forum I post in, so what do I know?

For me at least, forums in general have felt increasingly unrewarding, so I've been drifting away from them for a while.
I'm not sure what it is, but maybe cha cha's right, and the proliferation of social media has simply changed the nature of discussion on forums like these, and what's left is just a bit less engaging and a bit less fun. Or maybe I'm the one who's changing, and this format just isn't suiting my needs as well as it used to.
That's why I initially left anyways, and I've been kept away due to dealing with some personal issues that have popped up in the mean time. Thing is though, I'm finding that I don't really miss forum posting as much as I thought I would.
(By the way, I'm not really "back" or anything, but I was poking my head in here and this thread prompted me to chime in a bit. In any case, I'm alive and well. Hi.)

Re: The State of Racketboy?
This has happened to me. When I do have time, I'm often browsing on my phone during a bus ride or something now, but I don't like to post from a mobile device because it takes too long.General_Norris wrote:I think some of the regulars are busier than they used to so they don't post as much.
