Many people here own Jaguars too, what does that mean?

Well I probably couldn't live without Nintendo or Sony. I also couldn't live without square enix and namco bandai....especially if I could somehow get my hands on some decently priced versions of games we never got on the system they were intended for. Atlus is up there too for some rpgs I've played. Camelot is another decent one mostly for the Golden Sun series haven't played much of the other games. I can't really just pick one publisher just due to the fact there are so many games I couldn't imagine the world without that developer...

Nintendo gives you Mario RPG, so it's not a total loss.

Mario RPG wouldn't of happened without square....that close nit relationship they used to have made it possible....

Also might have to add SNK to my list just because of Crystalis so far....

But also what world would it be without GameArts....imagine a world with no Grandia I(please don't make me do it because I'm shuddering right now thinking about it)

Game Arts is the developer of Grandia. I'm not sure if they published a single game. At least not in the US.

A few, but the vast majority are cringe-inducing. I actually do like Nightmare on Elm Street quite a bit though.

LJN's output is really dependent on the developers they used, especially on the NES.

For example, Nightmare on Elm Street was developed by Rare, so it isn't all that cringe-worthy.

Jaws was developed by Westone (think Wonder Boy series)

Back To The Future was developed by Beam Software.

Karate Kid, Gotcha!, and Friday The 13th were done by Atlus or Pack-In Video depending on which source you prefer to follow.

So yes, LJN's output was generally garbage, but if you dig a little deeper, it's all not really their fault.

Atlus among current publishers. While I do love Sega, Namco, Capcom, and Squaresoft, it's their games of the past that matter to me. Their new stuff is okay, but doesn't really resonate with me nearly as much as their older games. Atlus on the other hand still pumps out a lot of games that I care about like Persona, SMT, and interesting niche titles. If they were to suddenly disappear, I'd be quite sad.

I don't think I would be the person I am today without Jaleco bringing me the NES version of Maniac Mansion or Capcom bringing me Street Fighter.

Same here with capcom but with the Megaman(rockman.exe) Battle network games and a few others they published during the gb/a/c era that I did have....

So it seems like the major ones are these:

1.) Nintendo
2.) Sega
3.) Capcom
4.) Square/Enix/Square Enix

I think we should have a "Dead Publisher Appreciation" thread - I really do miss Enix and Working Designs (Gaijinworks is still doing some great stuff though, really, really, love their passion for RPGS and niche releases).

Well I don't consider enix dead since it was a merger with square....almost all these mergers where one become part of another still mean a continuation. I just hate how most of the companies that came out of it like Namco Bandai and Square Enix all focus way too much on mobile development. I know some of you don't mind playing on a mobile device with these games, but those controls just feel off to me and if it's f2p like Phantasia was turned it just makes it a money grab app instead of the game it used to be...But you're right they aren't the publisher/dev they used to be, even in these new incarnations and it stinks. Maybe one day besides we'll have a return to that instead of cash-ins like some of the major ones are putting out now :-\ Ah well I guess we can just get the old games until that happens or what new stuff that's just as good that comes out :)
