Genesis sound problem, possibly AV cable?
So I have a Genesis 3 and am running it through AV into my commodore monitor. My sound is very very low even when the volume is turned to max. All other systems work fine. I am curious as to if it is possible for the AV cable to cause this problem? I would just try another cable but I only have 1 at this time. I really hope it is not my system :/. Does anyone have any advise, info, or experienced this yourselves? Thanks!
I am buying all Saturn games, PM me with your offerings and I will let you know if I need the game or not! (Everything must be CIB)

Did you try to a TV as well to see if it's the input on the monitor?

Dirty connector? Slightly bent pin? If you gently wiggle the console connector end does it go in and out?

Re: Genesis sound problem, possibly AV cable?
The Genesis 3 only does mono sound, are you running it into one side of a stereo jack? Sometimes that can cause a perceived drop in volume.

Never used one, though I've heard claims Genesis 3 outputs only the left audio channel.
Not combined into mono.

That's not a bad idea. You could get something like this, or see if you have the same problem with a NES.TSTR wrote:The Genesis 3 only does mono sound, are you running it into one side of a stereo jack? Sometimes that can cause a perceived drop in volume.
It's worth checking, but he'd probably get crackling and/or NO sound here and there if that was the case. I would also check the length of the cable for damage. Easier done with a continuity meter, but you can check without one. Just plug it in and power it on so you get sound, and make sure you're at a spot in the game that has constant sound (load the first level in a Sonic game and let it sit) then bend a U or S shape into the cable and wiggle that pattern back and forth down the length of the cable. If there's a break in the wire some where, you'll find it by doing this (the audio will cut in and out, or you'll hear crackling, etc).Hobie-wan wrote:Dirty connector? Slightly bent pin? I suppose we need clarification on what Commodore monitor it is. If it is a 1702 for 64s or a 1084 for Amigas, those are mono monitors. The 1084S is stereo. I was pretty much assuming it was a mono variety.

What kind of AV cable are you using? You can only use a mono one with the Genesis 3.
