Slavery is still going on.
Just to point it out: Managers have been around since one person decided it'd be easier if they made someone else does the work for them.
Managers are still everywhere.
Re: Random Thoughts Thread
^Wage slavery is a thing.
Re: Random Thoughts Thread
Well sure. Let's paint a fictional situation where I worked for a company for five years, and in that five years I went from Manager to Director. Let's also say I hired five people to work directly under me.TSTR wrote:^Wage slavery is a thing.
Say not only did I receive a new title, but a higher salary and higher commission. Let's also say that each year I kept bringing the company mo' money, mo' money, mo' money. Should I not be entitled to mo' money myself and employee people at an entry level salary, especially when I have to spend my time managing them?
I think so.
But when you have people who just come in as managers, who only contribute to the company be being a tyrant, I have issues with that. aka, people who jump down people's throats to "meet quotas" without how to meet them...ugh. Too much of that goes around in American businesses, especially small business'.
Re: Random Thoughts Thread
^Totes, I was agreeing with you.
Re: Random Thoughts Thread
I was echoing your point.TSTR wrote:^Totes, I was agreeing with you.
Some wage slavery is completely wrong, and it hurts the most vulnerable. The problem with these type of managers is that they do not value their employees for squat.
Why these managers aren't measured by employee turnover is still mystifying.
"The kid wasn't cut out to work..."

I'm also not a fan of almost every HR Manager I've worked with. Not that I've even met a Toby, but they all seem to think they're better than anyone who isn't paying their salary. I wouldn't say that without a few examples:
Someone in HR tried to change my contract of total commission from 5% of Total revenue to Net Profit.
Someone in HR came to my office during a meeting to remind me I had a court day for a speeding ticket.
Someone in HR tried to make me sign as a disabled employee.
Re: Random Thoughts Thread
Oh god, don't get me started on HR. I've been with the Duke University Health System for almost a decade—talk about your garbage-ass HR. There are some good people there in recruiter-level positions, but as you go higher up the food chain, everyone is more stuck up their ass and beholden to the ridiculous policies and fucked up system they have in place so nothing happens EVER without tons of bullshit back and forth paperwork, red tape, foot dragging, and lollygagging.
Come to think of it, that description is most of the higher level administrative positions I've had to encounter there. Another reminder why I'm on leave and trying to find somewhere else to make my living.

You guys used to use claymores when you wanted the English out. Now you're using referendums. I feel like something has been lost.

So I paid something like $100+ for an HD-DVD add-on for the 360, and now that its here I am not sure why I did it. I have to note that $66 was just for shipping. I had this terrible itch that I must get it for over a month now.
The setup is similar to the Frankenstein setup of Sega Genesis with its add-ons, not nice to look at or convenient. Even worse, my 360 is the loud non-HDMI model. When I tested a movie on it, I realised something. A movie is a movie no matter what format its on. The picture on the TV will always be similar, will it be Bluray/DVD/HD-DVD or digital download. There is no need to pay the extra $$$ to get it on a specific format. I should learn to control my media-format fetish. I remember I had similar experience when I was hunting for the Dreamcast.
On the bright side, the picture quality is amazing and unlike Bluray the movie is quick to load. If we were back in 2006 I would say that this would have been the natural successor for the DVD. Also the movies are pretty cheap but I will have to pay extra money for shipping. There are some titles I can save money on though buy going the HD-DVD route.
Do I regret the buy? I don't know, but I know if I didn't get it the itch would have gotten worse.

Oof, that's some brutal shipping man... HD-DVD is dead and buried so I don't know if I would have made the same choice, but I know what you mean about having the itch on certain things. The good news is, like you say, the titles that DID come out for it should be pretty cheap at this point (until they're all out of circulation). But who am I to talk? God knows I've made some ridiculous choices on how to spend MY money beforeRCBH928 wrote:So I paid something like $100+ for an HD-DVD add-on for the 360, and now that its here I am not sure why I did it.
