Re: Oculus Rift
It's important to note that it's not ACTUALLY $2 Billion. It's $400 Million and the rest is equivalent in Facebook IPO stock.

What I imagine Mark Zuckerberg looked like after that last tweetI suppose I will get a FB account now, so that may lead to some writing a little longer than tweet length…

Re: Oculus Rift
I still have yet to be impressed by the Oculus Rift. I think it's a novelty at best.

Re: Oculus Rift
So, because they accepted payment in stock, Oculus VR (technically) lost $200 Million today due to Facebook loosing almost five points.
If they hadn't actually accepted the deal yet ... the offer just went from $2 Billion to $1.8 Billion, in other terms (actually a little less).

Yes...but I suspect the tax consequences of a cash transaction would be severe, and given the size of the deal, I can assure you that it is structured to minimize those.Cronozilla wrote:So, because they accepted payment in stock, Oculus VR (technically) lost $200 Million today due to Facebook loosing almost five points.

Re: Oculus Rift
The bigger picture here is that VR is being promoted as The Next Big Thing. It certainly has its uses in industry and education and gaming of course.
Meh, give us a standard API on PC to work with. So if you get headset #1, #2 or #3 you're not shortchanged when it comes to the VR experience.

Re: Oculus Rift
If facebook uses their big bank accounts to fund the research and development costs neeeded for improving the displays on the Oculus Rift, this could become a great thing. If it injects facebook into the Oculus Rift, it will more likely just make me gag.

Re: Oculus Rift
So who of you have actually used the Rift?
I have, and I'm considering investing in any manufacturer who decides to manufacture the device.
It's not like Facebook will be the only company making these "things".
The device is pretty amazing, and once people remove their heads from their asses I see the rift being nothing but a profit making machine.
Or not. Time will tell.
