Been wanting a candy cab or HD Vewlix style cab for a little bit and stumbled across this:

After doing some research, and thinking it over, I started to get the funds together to order one. I sold my cocktail with the 60 in 1 (my MAME can play everything the cocktail had, so its not a huge loss) which got me about half of the cost of the cab. Got together the rest and have it on its way, and should be playing it by this weekend.

I picked up a 32" LED tv from Best Buy for $179, I have been on craigslist for days trying to snag a 32" for a decent price, but either nobody answers my emails, or they want almost the same cost as this BRAND NEW tv. I figured with a warranty, a return period, and not having to deal with meeting up with someone from CL, it was worth the few extra bucks. Bonus is that the TV has VGA input, so I have the option for the Dreamcast on this also.

For the time being, I will just use my Hori Fighting Edge on the cab, but will be building a control panel for it soon after. Definitely excited for this cab, and will post up some pics after I get it together.

Those custom cabs are interesting, but at the cost of finding the perfect monitor, 2 optimal fight sticks and the cab itself, you are getting into the territory of actual cabinet costs anyways...?

If i had to buy everything (cab, tv, sticks, ps3) it would probably push the cost into a little over a grand, but have you ever priced a Vewlix? Something like 2 grand, and you still have to ship it over seas. There is a guy in the US that sells a Vewlix clone that comes unpainted, un-assembled, and with no electronics that goes for like 600 plus shipping!

All in all, I will have about 800 into this cab when all is said and done (shipping was about $100) and I will be very happy with the result.

Never dealt with a Viewlix cabs or have seen one in action. But any HD screen cab all comes down tot he monitor you put in it, plain and simple you'd want to have the best gameplay experience possible with as low a visual latency as possible. All the clean wiring, painting and aesthetics in the world can't cure a laggy display.

What monitor model specifically are you gonna roll with in your 32" shell cab? $179 for 32" sounds like it may have latency issues.

I actually checked with http://www.displaylag.com for any of my potential monitors, to see if they had tested it. The one I got has a 28ms response time and a "great" rating. Sure its not a tournament grade Asus monitor or anything, but it feels fine to me. It actually feels better than my 40" LCD I have had for 5 years, that when I bought, I didn't even know about display lag.

Nice, 28ms is just below the threshold for being noticeably laggy. But for $179 I'd take that deal for sure. I don't think anyone would notice any latency issues unless you have a super hardcore FG player coming by to play and then again, they'd want to play games like SF4 on 360 anyways because there is a 1fps quicker difference than the PS3 version. Sooooo yea looks like you already have what you wanna do in mind and I look forward to seeing the finished result!

Yeah, I dont plan on having over any pros, or becoming good enough to honestly say I notice a difference. Its just for fun when friends are over.

I actually think this could be my last cab, unless some un real deal on a candy comes up that I can't pass up. Otherwise, i have everything covered, Neo-Geo, Mame, HD fighters.
