There is a lot about this that bothers me and I'm kind of sad for what gaming has lost.

Also, $2 billion? With the type of excitement that Oculus commands with a product that you can't even freaking buy at retail still, it's nuts that they are already selling the company.

...Unless there are problems with the product that haven't really gotten out yet.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Aaaaaand there went the excitement I had about Oculus Rift. One wonders what Carmack thinks. Will he not care as he's still playing with technology and getting paid, or will he balk at any hyper commercial management bs this brings?

I don't think he cares.

I can not be mad at the makers of the Oculus Rift at all for making the deal. $2 Billion is an insane amount of cash for a budding technology. I would take the deal and I am sure a lot of other people would do the same in that position. What is the worst that can happen, you might take that money and invest it into new and different technologies.

Maybe they realized they couldn't do anything more then what they already have and were ready to move on to different things.

It sucks that the Oculus is in the hands of Facebook, but I feel like there will be alternatives out there that may actually be more successful. You are seeing some big players like Mojang backing out of the hardware and I am sure they may go and support something else for Minecraft.

We will see though.

Kind of glad I didn't drop $300 on a dev kit last Christmas.

It's a good thing I couldn't drop $300 either....too sad another decent product that would've turned out well if it would just release was bought out by a big corporation....I want to see something like this that I may have actually wanted, make it to market and stay on market without being bought out XD
