Yeah never heard of the sony wega and I'm not sure I've really ever seen tv's in the goodwills near here...and honestly I've looked just because I'd rather look at what little selection they had on this stuff than the ton of clothes my mom likes to look at when I was dragged there when I was little. I need to find where the closest one is and look next month, especially since Goodwill computer works is so far away XD even if they might have a decent tv for the retro stuff. I wonder how good those xrgb-mini things can be...would be nice if stuff like it wasn't so expensive though if it really costs that much...

Well, I recently aquired another Wega HD CRT, and they are great.

I just love the sheer number of inputs it has:
3 Composite/S-Video, 2 Component, 1 just Composite, and 1 HDMI port.

It allows me to have 7 systems hooked up to it at all times.

Concur with what others mentioned, the HD CRT is a good compromise that supports non HD and HD signals. I have two HD CRT 4:3 Wegas, one in the bedroom and one in the front room. Very heavy units needing a sturdy stand, the HD Tube is a lot heavier then a regular CRT of the same size.
darsparx wrote:The current coming soon system I'm going to try to have and might have connected consist of the following: original wii, NES, SNES, n64, ps4, wii u(the snes is coming and u I plan to get especially when hd zelda launches) and possibly some earlier models of the ps(just for the fact there's a good bit of games that I really want to own physically on earlier ps systems since I never got to finish them after I found and subsequently fell in love with them).

I kinda want to avoid needing/having two tvs for now if I can and consolidate it to one.

 You are in for a very pleasant surprise! Oh and any Thrift Store I have visited ALWAYS has a few tube TVs waiting to be snatched up for cheap.

Take a game console whenever you get around to buying one; to verify the picture quality connected to the TV in the Thrift store. Most of the stores have the electronics near the wall outlets for testing. No worries on which cable to bring with the retro console, the HD CRT has almost every connection built right in. Just lacking VGA, RGB and direct HDMI on the older more uncommon 4:3 HD tubes.

See the CRT vs LCD Guide linked in my signature.

I take it my best bet for at least the retro systems is to wander into goodwill with my nes in hand and try to see if it would work? I wonder how weird it would look though I'd leave the system in the car until I knew they had a tv that would be nice enough to have....

I hope this one will work:

Went to two goodwills and the second had this little sucker for $13. Going back with my dad to pick it up since I already paid it....that thing is heavy as all get out but it's a nice size and I think it has like 3 composite ports(I always get the names mixed up but it's the red yellow white ports) from what i recall...I'm definitely going to update my pics in my game room thread once i get it home and connected. That was a chore just to move it 5 feet to test it and see if it worked...

Might as well ask again in this thread instead of asking elsewhere. What would be my best option so that I can use this tv to get a new remote? It's a ds27930 and I can't seem to pull it up. It didn't come with the remote and apparently this isn't like my grandmother's tv where you can plug it in and the system comes up on a channel instead of a input...I though the universal remote i had would work but it didn't have a input button....nor could I seem to get it to work on it for that matter. But what use would it be if it didn't have a input button? So what remote should i be looking for to make sure I get one that will work so that i can use the NES?

I got a cheapo Radioshack brand one. I think It was $10, but it has a search feature where it will scan through all the different tv signals until it finds the right one by turning off the tv. And they are hilariously big

Is there not an input button on the TV itself? Also, have you tried simply changing channels to see if the way inputs come across that way? Another option could be to use a satellite or cable box remote, if you've one lying around, and try to program that. Those usually have an input button.

If you're looking to spend on a universal, look at Logitech's Harmony line.

Wow thanks TSTR that worked, I found our old dish remote(since we got two new ones when they gave us a replacement box) and that worked amazingly. Saved me $10+, now to watch for the mail to come with my snes and a few other things as well as seeing if I need to repair or replace the pins in my NES XD Going to be great when i get this all to work...
