now I am pretty sure this movie was released between '95 and 2002,
but if i have to be more specific, i am guessing(yet not sure) its between '98 and 2000.
This movie is very similar to the movie "the faculty" in someway, and released around same time(or a year in difference maybe), it had some kind of alien thing going on, and there was like a hole either near the belly-button or in the lower back of your body(above the buttocks) and you if you plug something in there, i think you kind of travel through time or become an alien or something like that.
thats all I can remember of the movie, a hole that you plug something in , it supposed to be alien, and when you do I think you travel through time or you get special powers
does this ring any bells?
It IS, in fact, eXistenZ.
And it's also an early Jude Law film, back when he was just one of those actors you've heard of but knew nothing about.
But if you watch it, pay VERY CLOSE ATTENTION. I didn't when I saw it and at some point, I was all WTF.
And it was about virtual reality, not time travel.

Re: for movie fanatics: a question
How can we be sure the in fact it is eXistenZ. I merely said it because his explanation made me just think of it. But we can't verify it until dude man comes back and says... YEAH THAT'S IT!
If it isn't it though, I think the OP should watch it. Any VG nerd will eat it up and then ask themselves, "oh God, I can't unsee things... noooo"

Re: for movie fanatics: a question
I though of eXistenZ too. But you would think he would have mentioned video games or virtual reality since thats pretty much the entire premise. It's a decent flick....kindy hokey in parts but enjoyable for the most part. I really like/dislike the cafe scene where he makes a gun out of the disgusting food. It's horrible and clever. I always liked "the fly" and "scanners" best....but I love James Woods in "Video Drone" and for some reason i kinda like "Naked Lunch"....i think it's the insects. Did anyone else think of the talking hand in vampire hunter D when his type writer was talking to him?
Re: for movie fanatics: a question
well what do you know
it seems that it is that movie...
there must be some real movie buffs here giving right answer for a 10 year old film on the first reply
well it must be, because i dont think there is any other movie with holes in your back where things gets plugged,
thanx a lot, i always wanted to know that movie
though the title(and cover) seems really crappy science fiction movie, if i saw today i wont even think about watchin(i hate that type of movies) , I recall this movie being decent enough to watch
***might be spoiler***
but i recall the ending was upsetting, as in not fulfilling. I will rewatch it though cause i hardly remember it

Re: for movie fanatics: a question
Well you're welcome, I tend to be good with your more eclectic films. I spend a lot of time going through 3 dollar bins and on imdb looking for anything that looks low budget, indie or B movie. I'm a huge indie fan, most of the time due to the lack of high quality special effects they pay far more closer attention to story and other things. And story and bizarre worlds is what suck me into films. Not an ultra realistic explosion.
and yeah I remember the ending being unfulfilling and all as well. I won't explain why to avoid ruining it for anyone who wants to watch it.
Not to say unfulfilling should detour you. It was just not what I fully expected and felt a little odd. And I am a fan of his movies, so don't think I'm saying odd in the "weird movie" way... but odd in the context of who the writer/director is.

Re: for movie fanatics: a question
I can think of a couple movies where people have holes in their back that they plug things in to. But I have been blessed with good friends who have amazing taste in bad films. One of which is quite versed in 60s/70s Mexican scifi...
Re: for movie fanatics: a question
eXistenZ is 1 of my fav movies. It's really underlooked and underrated.
If each mistake being made is a new one, then progress is being made.
Re: for movie fanatics: a question
I didn't even realise who directed it. I watched it probably 8 years ago or something, right when it was released on VHS and I rented it from the video store. I think I might have to track a copy down and watch it with an open mind and try and forget about that whole 'The Matrix' thing.
I really liked Scanners, despite it being such a jarring and unforgiving film. Is it worth me tracking eXistenZ down and giving it another shot?

Seeing as I got my copy on DVD for 3 bucks... yeah... it's worth it.
I got it at my local Blockbuster and it was actually cheaper to buy the copy out of the bin instead of renting it. Heh.
