Strider (2014) - PS 4

Image

Finished Strider, first playthrough on hard mode. The game's okay. It's competant, as action games go, but there's nothing special or noteworthy about it. I could have designed this thing in a day. There's not a whole lot of skill or strategy to the gameplay. A fairly good chunk of the game is just you mashing buttons and watching things die. Sure, you'll take hits in the process, but there's health items everywhere. The controls are bit too slippery at times, and the soundtrack is mediocre. There's hardly any story to speak of. The graphics are...okay, but nothing spectacular, which sums up the game as a whole.

I'd rate it a 6 out of 10, a decent way to spend an afternoon if you haven't got anything better to play

Titanfall - PC
While the story mode is pretty weak, as it is voice overs in between multiplayer rounds and small cut scenes before a round starts, the games multiplayer is so enjoyable you forget about it pretty quickly. You pretty much have to play it as it is the only way to unlock the other two types of Titans.

Super Mario 3D World - Wii U
I waited in line the morning this game out to get it and loved it to death until I had 100%'ed all the levels up until the final, crown world where shit get 500% harder instantly.

Both the Marathon Mystery House (which involves doing 30 short snippets of play, each with a 10 second timer, in a row, you mess up, you go back to the start) and Champions Road which is one of the hardest levels in any Mario game ever, if not the hardest, took me quite a long time of picking up and playing a few rounds here and there until this weekend I decided I would not stop until I beat both, finally did and it felt amazing.

So 100% completed other than doing every level with all characters, not gonna bother with that shit.

Amazing game and perhaps my favorite Mario game ever.

Can I really count this, did not 100 per cent but beat the uh.... story? I got an ending LOL, so I think it counts, maybe?

Well that didn't take too long!

It is fun. The game is very pretty and, if you are at all comfortable in open world games, very easy. It lacked the "wow" factor that I felt with the first Infamous but otherwise everything seems better than what came before…though other than Festival of Blood I've only played a few hours of anything Infamous 2 related.

I didn't feel a need to do side missions when I was playing and I am not positive if I am eager to go back and do them now. I do have some preorder DLC missions and what not to try out I suppose, so maybe I'll get to those in time.

How were the missions? They were repetitive to me in the Infamous and never got to the second one. I have been considering this game but I am afraid of the game being an exercise in repetition. I think Amazon may even have collectors editions left, so maybe it isn't selling that well?

I think you'd probably find it to be almost as repetitive, but it moves at a quicker pace.

1. King of Fighters R-2 (NGPC)
2. Dead or Alive 2 (Limited Edition) (DC)
3. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles In Time (PS2)
4. Metal Gear (PS2)
5. Capcom Vs. SNK 2 (DC)
6. Sonic The Hedgehog Pocket Adventure (NGPC)
7. Bust-A-Move Pocket (NGPC)
8. Super Puzzle Figher IIX (DC)
9. Frogger 2: Swampy's Revenge (DC)

as I've been working on my makeshift Dreamcab project, I've been going thru my library and sampling games that are arcade stick friendly. Frogger 2 is one I'm a big fan of, and doesn't seem to get a lot of love. I've been playing it on and off all weekend, and just finally beat it. Some of the later stages get pretty tough. The ending is really anti-climactic. You finish a level, get a cutscene and "THE END." But whatever, the gameplay is top notch. I wrote a longer writeup on it a couple years ago which you can read on my site if so inclined.

1/6: Dear Esther (Steam)
1/11: Hydrophobia: Prophecy (Steam)
1/14: Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir (3DS) *forgot this one earlier whoops*
1/26: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (DS)
2/1: 1,000,000 (Steam)
3/14: Thomas Was Alone (Steam)
3/15: Fairy Bloom Freesia (Steam)
3/22: Suikoden (PS1)

Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir - Really interesting game, even if it is very short. It uses the 3DS's outer cameras to make it look like there's a ghost in the room, and you move your 3DS around to capture various ghosts.
Unfortunately I found that the room needs to be pretty bright to work properly, so it was pretty frustrating at first (when I was playing in a fairly dim room). Plus my arms got tired pretty quickly... Overall though I thought it was enjoyable enough :) (I did get it for free as well, so that kind of helps haha) Still a little confused on why they just didn't call it "Fatal Frame: The Cursed Memoir" or something though... "Spirit Camera" doesn't sound quite as good if you ask me :/

Suikoden - Man I'm glad I decided to play this :D The story was a bit meh, but I really liked the variety of characters to recruit, the graphics, and the quick battle system (which made the minimal amount of grinding a lot better). The war battles were pretty good too, but they did get a little too easy near the end... Now I definitely can't wait to try out the sequel :>
