How Long is Your Drive/Commute to Work?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

About 35 to 45 minutes depending when I need to be at work. And 23 miles. Its mostly around 40 minutes. I travel from Staten Island to New Jersey through 440S/287S.

It can take more time since the NJ Turnpike intersects there and it can get busy: hour+ but rarely.

I used to work in Manhattan and one of several express buses take me there. Hour and a half for that commute +/- 10 minutes.

On the topic of city mouse vs country mouse, I am lucky to have the best of both worlds. I live on half an acre of land bordering the woods. I can crank up my volume to eleven, and the neighbors never say anything. My commute is still short. I can walk half an hour to my weekday job or drive about ten minutes.

If I get to retire I would prefer to move out of apartments. But while I am working 5 days a week, I rather have the extra free time :)

Heh, that's why I'd try to have a small low cost house, with a small yard that has a room I can dedicate to gaming seems like less work than the houses most people want XD
Well I am lining up to buy 20 acres and build a castle on it, so yeah...granted 18 of those 20 acres would be fields for animals.

*Castle for house is unlikely, but I will have a Castle structure on the property. Maybe just the workshop.

Yeah definitely don't want that size of a lot for myself I think I'd be happy with just a acre of land(maybe less). I guess i'm little conservative to what I want in a house, I just want it to be big enough for me and if I have kids, enough to give them a room. But still have a room dedicated to gaming/office...plus I hate mowing so a small yard is best :P

And on the subject of country vs city, i'd rather live in the country, it's quieter and no one will really say anything if you make a ton of noise. In the city you offend somebody all the freaking time, even by making the slightest of sound it feels like. Of course I grew up in the country so that's another reason to like it, it was a lot nicer than the neighborhood i live in now. Still nice though that living with parents I'm on 10-20 minutes away from work...though I'd prefer to have a house closer to it just for the fact that would greatly diminish the time it took to get to the retro game stores and some of the other places that might sell games over here. It seems like the decent places are all in Charlotte and in my case all of them are on the opposite side of it...

I much prefer living in a house as opposed to an apartment for many reasons.

1. Financial - My mortgage is cheaper than most 'nice' 2 bedroom apartments, and cheaper than the apartment we used to have and is 3 times bigger and nicer. My money is also gaining equity as opposed to making the apartment owner money.

2. Yard - I have pets and a kid, it is nice having a yard.

3. Customization - Within reason, I can pretty much do what I want to my house.

4. Space - Obvious

5. Utilities - My power bill is actually cheaper here than was my old apartment/townhouse. Apartments use cheap materials and the structure wasnt very well insulated. They also dont issue efficient appliances (for the most part)

6. Noise issues already mentioned

So for those bonuses, I only really have to sacrifice with a longer commute and being responsible for repairs.

25-30 minutes one way. I'm 20 miles from work. I wake early, have my coffee and oats, and then hit the road with plenty of time to spare. I then proceed to drive like a granny and crank the stereo. I used to drive formula 1 in the morning. I'm done with that crap. Lower heart rate and better mpg ftw. :)

Definitely don't envy that, of course my mom did the same here, and pretty sure it took at least a hour to do. It's even worse if you go into a rental house family owns and the previous renters were smokers so all the yellow gunk is piled up on the windows and seals...
