discolored corner in my monitor does it just need degaussing
moved my monitor into my living room into the new entertainment center I bought and now the top right corner is discolored. I was very careful moving it and the monitor is basically brand new. From the research I have down all sources seem to point to degaussing. I have already ordered the degaussing coil as I should probably own one for my cab. is there any danger of damaging my monitor by degaussing it?

How long did you leave it off after moving it? Let it sit a good 20 minutes in it's current position and turn it back on as a first step.

I'm 99% sure that this thing doesn't have a built in degausser, I know what you mean. My HD CRT degausses when you turn it on I had a discolored corner on that tv when I moved it into my bedroom and I did what you say and it went away.mjmjr25 wrote:How long did you leave it off after moving it? If you have another screen about the same size with a degaussing ring, you can cheat by putting it up face against the one that doesn't and turning it on. Obviously not as good as a built in or proper one, but can help in a pinch.

My HDCRT weighs well over 200lbs I think I'll wait for my degaussing coil to arriveHobie-wan wrote:If you have another screen about the same size with a degaussing ring, you can cheat by putting it up face against the one that doesn't and turning it on. That is an interesting method, but does the built in Degaus have to encircle the tube? Seemed like it would be too far away to have any affect on another CRT. However, maybe worth a shot if the spare TV not too heavy.

Maybe it wouldn't work anymore, but when PC monitors had degaussing functions that were violently crazy, I read that at one point and successfully made my Commodore monitor look better after I accidentally got an unshielded speak too close to it.

oh happy day, my degaussing coil arrived today and worked brilliantly! perfect color purity now. If you own an arcade monitor a degaussing coil is a must.

Good to see you got it going, looks sharp man!
Years ago I had a combo bass amplifier running next to a CRT TV and this happened. I can vouch for this.Hobie-wan wrote:Maybe it wouldn't work anymore, but when PC monitors had degaussing functions that were violently crazy, I read that at one point and successfully made my Commodore monitor look better after I accidentally got an unshielded speak too close to it.

Can you post where you bought the coil from, or which one?
I'd read about manually degaussing a screen using a horseshoe magnet attached to a drill, but it sounded dangerous.
