I was playing Madden 09 on playstation 2,
Giants vs. Jets
3rd down and 5 1st quarter
I was stupid and threw to Burress in triple coverage, and i was trying to avoid the ball being intercepted so i tried knocking Burress into the defenders,
The defender did indeed intercept the ball and ran it for a touchdown and there is a flag on the play.
It was offensive pass interference on me, and the Jets accepted which gave me the ball back and made it 3rd down and 15.
WTF? Im not kidding.

I think I speak for the entire non-US user base when I say that I have no clue what any of that meant. However I'm sure it was pretty epic.

As a USian, I have no idea what that meant either. Football is way too complicated.
I can enjoy a lot of sports games, Virtua Striker, Virtua Tennis, Mario Golf, the NHL games on the genesis, NBA Jam, Super Baseball 2020 for SNES, etc, etc. I've never found a football game that made sense.

No, it was good for him. Instead of an interception -> touchdown which would have occured with no or a declined penalty he gets the ball back with a loss of yards. So now he can still make first down or punt, either of which doesn't involve the opponent scoring.
Now, there are two strange things here. The first is that the computer accepted the penalty, which they clearly shouldn't have. I'm not sure that's a bug, though, as I don't know if offensive pass interference can be called on an interception. But that's a very strange edge case that doesn't even come up much, so I'd have to look at the official NFL rulebook.
