The camera you get when you fight The Boss is terrible, which is the same way the Snake Eater camera works. It is down right horrible. Like you, I don't understand how people could have done it.

I finally beat MGS3 last night, and I'm going to stick with my original statement that it is my least favorite in the series that I've played.

I would think most people used first-person view in that fight, flat on the ground sniping or something (that's what I did anyway). Snow camo, thermal goggles, Mosin Nagant 8)

I played vanilla MGS3 and I felt pretty dumb knowing there was one with a better camera.

MGS2
MGS4
MGR: Revengeance

I don't think you're playing the entire saga when you're ignoring the badass Shinta Nojiri entries:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metal_Gear_Acid
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metal_Gear_Acid_2

While those might be outside the main canon plot-wise, gameplay-wise they're not to be missed.

And if you're really into MG lore, don't forget this bad boy:

I'm concentrating first on the canonical games, then may move on. But in all actuality I'll probably be burnt out by that point.

so I started up playing Metal Gear Solid 2 for the first time and I will include my initial feelings in spoilers because, who knows, someone like me may not know what is going on?

So I finished the intro with Snake on the tanker and have gotten into Raiden's campaign. I do not mind the I am not playing Snake, but, since he clearly has a role in the game, but I feel that Raiden's character is kind of whiny. Not to mention the relationship with his girlfriend which is eye rolling. I feel that this will keep up and I honestly am not excited in the least for it. I'm still enjoying the game though

It's intentional, if not exactly subtle. The plot turns out better than it may seem at that point in the game.
