I've got a third console on it's way to me. They don't take up THAT much space haha.

The controller rules... but you could just get a Total Control and use a PS2 controller if you wish.

i've tried for years to enjoy the DC controller and i just cannot do it. every time i sit down with it it cramps the hell out of my hands. it's even worse now that i'm older and i work a job where i'm on a computer all the time and my hands and wrists are all carpal-tunnely.

i'll give 'er a go at some point again soon, i'm sure. how difficult is a region-free mod? anyone selling a pre-modded console? :)

There's a sizable number of Dreamcast games on Windows and the Xbox 360. Dreamcast emulation is pretty good now with nullDC and Demul. Either way, you can use a X360 controller which is similar to the Dreamcast controller, but (hopefully) more comfortable.

you do have options though w/ controller adapters. PS2 ones are common. Saturn ones are available as well if you're looking to play some 2D games and don't need an analog stick.

no idea, yo. I've always just used a boot disc for imports. I like to keep my hardware stock if possible.

Took me a while to notice that there were backpacks in that second picture.

I'm no fan of the cord coming out of the bottom, and it could use a better dpad, but the analog stick is pretty good (and lasts longer than the Saturn one) and the hand position is OK. Not great for 2D games, but fantastic for 3D games.

i just think the triggers are in a terrible position. maybe i'm spoiled by newer controllers but i've never liked the DC controller for that reason (and that horrible d-pad). had the same issue with the Saturn 3D pad, but that's less of an issue for me since the pad is slightly larger and the d-pad isn't so tiny.

aaron, maybe one of these would be for you:

different shape, different triggers and different DPad.

Also you guys, I used my amazing photoshop skills to put this rough sketch together:

My father in law is helping me cut the wood to get the monitor stand and control panel set up for my Dreamcab.

I am going to make a radical suggestion noise, but why not have the control pedestal and the monitor stand separate? That way you can move the controls out of the way and it will be easier to transport. Make both of them like podiums and you can store the console, games, and other controllers inside of them. Just a thought.

I thought of that at one point, but the way I have it now the desk I started with is the stand, and underneath it can store the console, wires, etc. Plus, I like it being one piece (it's on wheels)... have no real plans to move it anywhere though. It's in my game room.

In the past I did make a makeshift setup where I had a stick on a podium and had it as something I could take out and just setup in front of my monitor:

But honestly, I really like the idea of having this single, dedicated, stationary unit.

The "control panel" will just be a flat surface, so that I can easily substitute the sticks for keyboards (Typing of the Dead) or steering wheels if need be. (Again, using the underneath the desk for storage). I'm also planning to eventually 'seal off' the beneath the desk, and install a door on it to access the console.
