One of the big disconnects I think I have apart from you guys is that I grew up in an area of Chicago that was basically full of immigrants from either Ireland, Germany, or Poland.

Everyone still celebrated Saint Patrick's Day, and as you all know, it's a HUGE deal in the windy city. If you were Irish, you were expected to have the day off of both school or work. All the Irish kids were absent on St. Patrick's Day either to celebrate or perform in some sort of parade or gathering.

Now everyone go watch the episode of the Simpsons where Bart goes to the Paddy's Parade and talk about stereotypes.

That's because, as you all know, the windy city is full of a bunch of drunks. They even have a entire stadium on the north side of town disguised as a baseball field which exists solely as a place to get drunk during the day in the summertime. And all the Irish kids were absent because they were hungover.
