Dreamcast VGA question

Post by crimsonsoulz »

well i stumped upon this site as i was looking for a method of getting a better picture for my dreamcast on my HD tv and found the VGA box with s video. so i decided to purchase one, my question is is there a compatibility chart of some sort that shows which games work and which don't, currently all my d.c games are backups excluding sonic adventure. the only concern i have is that sonic may not work as it dose not have a vga compatible sign on the case, so a compatibility chart would help. one last thing were is this store located, i live in canada and was wondering how long it may take for me to receive the vga box.

I don't have an official list, but I know from experience that JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and Gunbird don't support it. I'm fairly sure all 3D games do however. The list of VGA capable games is definitely in the 99% majority.

If you use the Utopia boot CD, it won't support VGA (although I've been told that some games will reset to VGA afterwards, but I've never tried it.). Most selfboots are fine, and the DC-X commercial boot disk also works fine (I use this on Under Defeat, Trigger Heart, and Last Hope [bleurgh]).

There are two versions of the Utopia book disk, 1.0 does not support VGA output and 1.1 does. Also be aware that the picture displayed at boot by version 1.1 of the disk can damage some monitors. The "fix" for this problem is to boot with the monitor turned off, wait 20 seconds, swap disks, wait 20 seconds and/or wait until your VMU displays the picture for the game, turn your monitor on.
