I own it, just haven't gotten around to watching it yet.samsonlonghair wrote:If you liked those two movies... You really need to watch Akira Kurosawa's masterpiece Rashomon from 1950.[/img]

Re: Favorite foreign films?
Although some of these are probably mainstream enough, they are really nice ones and I can really recommend the following (don't read the plots on the wiki pages):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_Is_Beautiful
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amelie_poulain
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lives_of_others
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Intouchables
Also good (quite funny):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goodbye_lenin
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Priceless_(film)
Also, several Jackie Chan movies from when they were made in Chinese (I also like his more recent ones), and as that probably also counts as foreign, several anime movies (but we also have a thread for that).
It is hard to pick a favorite.

I loved Goodbye, Lenin! We watched it in German class, which was pretty cool. I saw Run Lola Run that way as well. As for the others, I've heard very good things.Ivo wrote:Although some of these are probably mainstream enough, they are really nice ones and I can really recommend the following (don't read the plots on the wiki pages):

Brotherhood of the Wolf/Le Pacte des Loups has its moments. It also has Mark Dacascos, who I sadly recalled most for being Jimmy Lee in the Double Dragon movie...
Re: Favorite foreign films?
Doesn't appear that anyone mentioned the movie "Brotherhood of The Wolf" It is a really well done French film. Very bloody, so not for the young ones. I must admit, it has been a while since I've seen it.... so I have forgotten the plot a bit.

Watched Mongol yesterday, about Gengus Khan; all in subtitles, was quite good.

This would be a case study for me. I'll just add to them as they come to mind.

La Promesse. A simple story of a kid, raised by a scumbag and made to do scumbag things, develops a conscience and does the right thing.
