I was browsing the Dark Souls II gamefaqs message board, and its just amazing how people gloat about being all hardcore when playing these games and kids should go play Elder Scrolls or Pokemon if it's too hard.

I hate to give into the hype and go buy it just to see whats the fuss is all about, i feel its a huge bandwagon or something.
Disclaimer- Thoughts from the one dude on the forum that thinks the games are not the greatest things since sliced bread:

They're not hard; just tedious. The games really only require patience and pattern memorization. If you can handle trial-and-error games then you should be all right.

While I feel that the first two games are average at best (haven't had a chance to play ds2 yet), I do recognize that this series will be to the PS3 what the Final Fantasy series is to the PS1. They're worth playing just to see what the fuss is about.

However, I'd just play Demon's Souls before you buy this one. It's like ten dollars used. You'll get pretty much the same gameplay at a lower cost.

They are hard, because they require pattern memorization and patience. That is also a bit misleading, as you can't just strong-arm your way through everything, and actually have to give the game some thought. (At least, I found this true with the earlier games, I have not yet played Dark Souls II).

Hazerd: The games aren't good just because they are somewhat challenging, that is just one aspect that makes these games awesome. Like Opa said, snag one of the games already out to be sure you like it. Unlike Opa, though, I would recommend getting Dark Souls, not Demon Souls.

So I'm several bosses in and I think Dark Souls II has definitely hit that "best refined" point in the series. The death penalty is a good balance between Demon's Souls and Dark Souls and there's now no incentive to stay dead (you can still be invaded) and it seems that the "become alive" items are much easier to get. They finally made dual wielding something worthwhile; weapons have full movesets no matter what hand they're in and if you have sufficient stats you can go into a power stance where you have a new moveset utilizing both weapons. They streamlined the upgrade system so that the weapon +'s are decoupled from elemental enchants, so now you don't have to manage 20 different kinds of titanite to level your gear up. You can definitely see that they have learned from each entry and refined the formula each time. I look forward to this franchise continuing for many more installments (even if they restart the story several times like how Final Fantasy does).

Ill end up picking up Demons Souls or Dark Souls eventually to round out my PS3 collection, but actually they seem to be kinda scarce by me at GameStops and Retro/Used shops, probably because the new one just came out.

Not sure if you are near a Best Buy, but last I was there Dark Souls was priced at $9.99, and there were plenty.

... I was going to mention that I saw this price on the 360 version, but I really didn't think it would matter.

I was wrong!

Yeah, I get the feeling too.

To be honest I'm kind of wondering where they'll go from here. Obviously it's WAY too early to be starting speculation on the next Souls game, but I can't help being a little curious.

Personally, I hope Dark Souls 3 never comes out. Instead I'd be more interested in seeing them do a new story and universe and change the name again. Dread Souls anyone? Devil Souls? Whole new world, whole new lore. Better than the possibility that they keep trying to drag out Dark Souls and possibly run out of ideas.

Rumor has it (on Wikipedia, anyway) that they want to go back and make Demon's Souls II, which would be a true sequel and not a spiritual one like Dark Souls.

How do I hide a thread so it doesn't show up on my "view your posts?" I'm trying to wait for the PC version but posts like Popo's are making it really hard.

Also hazard if your interested I'm planning on selling a bunch of my ps3 stuff and could sell you either dark or demon's for a good price.
