I'll try again tomorrow to actually go inside even though it says it's a church and looks just like one.
Believe me man, I go to the thrift stores a few times a week and find that same kind of crap then find something big. It's all about luck and timing. The best thing I found was a PSOne bundle with an lcd screen for $4.99. The best finds have been at Goodwill and the local retro game store believe it or not. I find amazing deals there all the time but never anything in the display case as it's there for a reason but still $5 at least under market value so I don't complain, I just avoid it.
I also live in the middle of nowhere so I doubt there's anyone else hunting for video game stuff there. I regularly find good deals on craigslist too. The best find from there was a grocery bag full of working GBA SPs, 12 of them I think for $30 with 2 GBC and a DS.

This isn't fair, the salvation army next to me only has VHS tapes.

It honestly probably is just a church or shelter, there's plenty out there that are just that... the donation centers/stores are kinda an outcropping from those.nullxor wrote:I'll try again tomorrow to actually go inside even though it says it's a church and looks just like one.

And yeah, I know there's at least 3 other big-time collectors in my city (that I'm at least acquaintances with, decent friends with 1) and at least 1 friend of mine does a really good side business on ebay with video games, so it's pretty competitive here for scores ANYWHERE.
Nice find on the GBAs. Craigslist is okay sometimes for me, though nothing half as good as that score. I think probably the best I got there was $30 for a stack of cart-only Genesis games -- mostly crap, but I bought it purely for Mutant League Football and Hockey (Hockey had a ripped label, but Football was in decent shape) and those 2 alone were worth the price.
Gunning for a licensed NES NTSC-U set, follow the madness and poverty here!

I also got something from Salvation Army today.
It cost me $5.00 for everything. It was all in a dirty little cardboard box, but I left that there for salvation army to throw away.
The carts and cases are pretty beat up for Out Run and Afterburner. That poor game is the most dirty of them. The back of Afterburner has been sitting in oil/grease for a few years and the cart label is really faded
But the rest are a little better.
I hope the system works. I wonder if there's a game built in?
Thanks flojocabron. I think the fact that my location is not open on weekends helps my chances, as there is less opportunity for others to nab the stuff. I only ever get anything when I take a day off in the middle of the week and go early.
Your Sega score is awesome. $5 is usually what my Sally Ann prices their systems at. I love getting them at that price.

That's usually what my location has as well. That and crappy old jewellery. Keep up the good fight and you may find a gem someday. One really good find will make all of the worthless visits pay off.Cronozilla wrote:This isn't fair, the salvation army next to me only has VHS tapes.

Re: Video Game "Look what I found"
So I hit up a few Gamestops in the area looking for Wii and PSP games. While I struck out on the PSP I found a few solid Wii titles, all CIB and in nice shape.
Austin GameStop
Sin & Punishment: Star Successor - $5 - a double for me but in great shape so I picked it up thinking I can use it in trade sometime
Albert Lea GameStop
Battle Rage - $3 - later returned, looked good but was a bad game
Wii Fit Energizer Rechargeable Battery Pack - $3
Apple Valley Gamestop
FlingSmash - $3
Nat Geo Challenge: Wild Life - $2 - this one is for my kids
Red Steel - $2
Red Steel 2 - $5
Wii Play - $3
They had a few more things I was looking at such as Alone in the Dark, Big Brain Academy, and Flip's Twisted World. Big Brain being a Nintendo produced game is on my list. Are Alone in the Dark or Flip's Twisted World any good?

I've been in several times, I just can't find anything in that place. And the smell ... my god.vatermuzik wrote:That's usually what my location has as well. That and crappy old jewellery. My goodwills used to have awesome stuff ... but now everything gets siphoned off and sold online.
If you notice on goodwill's auction site, the nice lots with good SNES games, TG16, etc are all from my area stores. Which just pisses me off.
Then I walk in to the store and they want $40 for an Original Xbox. The days of really finding stuff there are long gone. It's actually cheaper to go to a retro-dealer. :\
At least then I'd be supporting a local store that's being fair.

I was watching that on ebay for a while but the "yellowing" he mentioned and other issues turned me away.nullxor wrote:I got this for a STEAL yesterday. It gets delivered Monday. It's a Japanese Sega Saturn bundle. What I don't get is why I can't find that color scheme anywhere?
Re: Video Game "Look what I found"
A sealed big box Wolfenstein 3D, Radiant Silvergun, Mega Man 3 big box and a lot more.. yeah I had a good week :p
