Mame games for vertical monitors
I'm particularly looking for a list of mame games that can be played on a vertical monitor. My pc monitor goes vertical but for dreamcast games the image goes the wrong way around and just recently got to using mame and discovered the beautiful world of vertical mame gaming. I was going to post this on the shmup section but don't want to limit to that genre, if there is any other genre possible. Puzzle or pinball maybe? I leave it to the more knowledgeable of you out there. Besides the dreamcast is there any other console capable of this? Thanks!

Re: Mame games for vertical monitors
Games with large amounts of black border on the side will be a bigger image when flipped on the side depending on your resolution. Pac-Man, Gorf, and other vertical shooters you might want to try. There are tons of old arcade games that were like that. Not sure if there is a list since there are just so many.
Re: Mame games for vertical monitors
Try using the -listxml flag to mame to generate an XML file with detailed info for all your roms. From there, it's a short perl script to get all the games with a greater vertical resolution than horizontal.

Re: Mame games for vertical monitors
Good tips. Just downloaded mameui32 and on the left side categories there's one for vertical and it lists about 1,800 games (including the many versions of the same games - us, jap, and so on). Don't have many roms at the time but will have to get a good set and experiment with more mame emulators to see which one is more streamlined. So far don't like the ones I've seen.

Yup, that's what I do (substitute perl for grep/awk). From there I use the list to copy only the vertical games to my cocktail cabinet.Hatta wrote:Try using the -listxml flag to mame to generate an XML file with detailed info for all your roms.
