Drakengard 3 announced! Can you believe it?

Post by Valkyrie-Favor »

I wouldn't believe it if it hadn't come from RPGFan.
This week's Famitsu revealed that a continuation of a series that almost no one expected is in the works: Drag-on Dragoon 3 (Drakengard 3). The PlayStation 3 title so far has two characters: The 'reckless' Zero has flowers growing out of her eye (seriously, she should see a doctor for that) and has a prosthetic left hand and a power called Utautai that lets her push her power to the limits - although she has to bathe in blood for it. Her sister, One, is quite the opposite - an intellectual with a more calm and serious personality. The game will also have both ground and air battles, true to the rest of the series.

So far we have yet to learn who Drakengard 3's developer is (Cavia has since dissolved into Marvelous AQL) or further details, but stay tuned to find out!

UPDATE: As it turns out, it looks as if Square Enix got several original developers working on Drakengard 3 after all. Taro Yoko (Drakengard, Nier) will direct and work on scenarios, Takamasa Shiba (Drakengard) is producer, Kimihiko Fujisaka (The Last Story, Drakengard) is the character designer, while Keiichi Okabe will compose the score.
I am pretty darn excited. It's always good news to hear a property this daring and inventive getting continued. I hope the devs will clean up the mechanics and continue the first game's narrative.
Tsun tsun dere tsun dere tsun tsun~ . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . UPDATED trade list

I've never heard this series. Apparently it's good?

Drakengard 3? What the fuck, don't tell me Square is going to rape Cavia's dead corpse and push out another shitty generic....

Okay, nevermind that tantrum. This could be good, I'll hope for the best.

Loved Nier, never played Drakengard 1-2 though. I do want to check them out eventually, but with this supposedly being more of a successor to Nier... I wonder if I can just jump in with 3? lol. Maybe all the entries are pretty separate from one another?

Drakengard 3 is a prequel to the first game in the series, so if you're worried about being left out story-wise I think you'll be fine.

I always hear very mixed things about Drakengard 1 & 2 and Nier. What are the reasons to play the games, and why do so many people not like them?

The gameplay's a little clunky, but they have some of the most interesting and f-ed up stories in videogames. I mean "giant flying baby heads" f-ed up.

Originally it seemed to me that Drakengard 3 was going to be a SE store exclusive, but i just noticed its up on Amazon for pre-order now.

Now i can get it from Amazon instead of the SE store.

Also, ERSB Rating Summary:

https://www.esrb.org/ratings/synopsis.j ... chkeyword=
Rating Summary: This is a role-playing action game in which players assume the role of a celestial being that embarks on a dark and murderous journey. Players use swords and bladed weapons to slash dozens of enemy soldiers, trolls, and other fantastical creatures in frenetic combat. Battles are highlighted by frequent cries of pain and large blood-splatter effects; frequent dismemberment/decapitation occurs as well. Cutscenes also depict intense instances of violence: characters stabbing/impaling others with swords or lances. The game includes sexually suggestive dialogue and text (e.g., “That nympho freak was always making me try some new kink she'd heard about,” “We all know you pretend to like S&M because you're actually terrible in the sack,” and “An easygoing old man with an insatiable sexual appetite. Any orifice will do, and his member is the largest of any disciple's.”). In a handful of brief, fantastical sequences, a female character is depicted nude while covered in blood and emerging from a giant flower. The words “f**k,” “sh*t,” and “a*shole” appear in dialogue.

Is that real? haha.

Good to hear I can get it off Amazon. Pretty pumped for this.

The main character IS a girl though... right?
