So my thoughts on last nights go-round with Injustice via PSN:
First off, let me apologize to Capcom. I have been an unabashed hater of their archaic and poorly devised online battle systems and lobby systems, and it was in my thoughts- with good reason when compared to their peers in modern gaming...
Then comes Injustice, which with a cursory glance looks normal... But man, how wrong I was to think that. Without going into exhaustive details let me just say:
-Ranked is a joke, there is no filters set up at all. Meaning you join ranked and it attempts to simply find you a good connection quality match (which even then it fails at). So sitting at 0-0, and soon after 0-3, I was faced off TWICE against a player who was top 10 on the leaderboards in wins. GREAT WAY to initiate new players NRS...
-Player matches have NO SETTINGS. No way to affect rounds played or in-game options, limit number of entrants, make private slots or INVITE FROM THE LOBBY... wow. Wow is really all I can say.
-KOTH (for the uninitiated means 'King of the Hill', not that they take the time to explain that in menus to a new player), HAS a lobby system to invite multiple ppl up to 6. But GUESS WHAT? If I initiate the lobby, the INSTANT someone joins me, it starts the match and I can't invite anymore people until it's played. LOL.
anyways, tl;dr, Injustice's online play options are a joke. It's netcode however was actually acceptable in most cases, we played aramonde at 3 bars from the west coast and it was fine.
We had a good amount of fun. Myself, Aramonde, Theli, Dayman and Xybaz (and one local Blo non-RB member g1Thunderbird) all showed for games. For most of us it was our first time online in Injustice and Thunderbird/Theli were pretty experienced over the rest of us, lol, which led to some pretty lopsided massacres.
I used Killer Frost, who is a very good character that punishes mistakes hard. However when online play is brought into the mix, her already difficult execution on certain punishes/combos are even more difficult to pull off with slight latency. Needless to say I only won a handful of matches all night and didn't practice nearly enough to fight my way out of 50/50s and constant pressure from unfamiliar matchups (aka all match ups

)
Surprisingly enough none of the most popular/OP characters made appearances! No Supermans, Batmans, Deathstrokes or Black Adams! It was mainly... Hawkgirl... and Raven that dominated the night. Also played were Catwoman, Harley, Zod, Doomsday and Aquaman. So it was a pretty varied exhibition for all involved, lots of bad matchups were learned about... the hard way
Anyways GGs. We'll give this game another go next week and see how everyone has improved -AND HOPEFULLY- add some more RB'ers to the mix!
Thanks again to all who showed and it was fun chatting and talking shit in IRC!
Next week= Wednesday 3/19 @ 8pm!
