Well it's my favorite FF ever. I think you have good taste sir.MrNash wrote:Depending who I talk to, apparently I'm a monster for liking Final Fantasy XII. =p
Relevant to thread...
I did not buy a $200 Vita so I could play cheap assed indie titles on it. People need to stop acting like the Vita is a great "indie machine". It was built to play AAA portable titles. Expect that out of it, buy the few AAA titles for it available. Perpetuate the potential and it shall be filled. Buy your simple indie titles on your smartphone or Ouya or LeapFrog. I'd rather puke on my Vita than violate it with Minecraft.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.
Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
Eh, most of the people I know enjoy it; it's personally one of my least faves, but that's just because the character's I didn't love, I really disliked, and I thought the gambit system was absolutely broken. Not saying I didn't have fun, though. Definitely played through/enjoyed it, and the license system was really interesting/cool.MrNash wrote:Depending who I talk to, apparently I'm a monster for liking Final Fantasy XII. =p

Im not sure if this is an unpopular opinion but I really dislike the use of day and time in videogames, like in shenmue (which I actually loved), majoras mask and persona 4.

Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
I don't know if this opinion is unpopular or not but since we are on the subject of Final Fantasy:
The series peaked at VI (US 3) on the SNES. It's been downhill from there.
Also I have never understood the worship that VII gets on the internet. The best I can figure is that people were (understandably) wowed by "dat polygonz" at the time. It was a competent RPG at best, not the messiah of video games it is often made out to be.
*Ahem* Sorry about that - was that out loud?

While I disagree (I think that IX is the best, going downhill from there), I think a lot of FFVII worship comes from the massive marketing campaign that the game had, in conjunction with, yes, having dem polygonz. The reason it's so popular is because Squaresoft spent a ton of money making it popular pre-release. So, while I don't understand the worship, I think I have a good idea where it's coming from.marlowe221 wrote:I don't know if this opinion is unpopular or not but since we are on the subject of Final Fantasy:

I wish I had numbers to reference, though; all I'm going off is the FFVII wiki page, where it says it had a "massive three-month marketing campaign".

Yeah the marketing for Final Fantasy VII was egregiously huge. It is a mixture of nostalgia, mixed with the cutscenes and music that were unheard of at the time for console gamers.catnip wrote:While I disagree (I think that IX is the best, going downhill from there), I think a lot of FFVII worship comes from the massive marketing campaign that the game had, in conjunction with, yes, having dem polygonz. I agree to the statement that it all went downhill after IX (as that was my favorite). There are ups and downs in the final fantasy series through that, but I feel that every game after IX has had a steady decline, not necessarily in quality, but just the "it" factor.

Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
It was also the first FF game for a lot of people, due to it being the first on a new generation of consoles. At least, that's the answer given by the story director for IV (here, it's on the last page).marlowe221 wrote: Also I have never understood the worship that VII gets on the internet. I know they did do a lot of advertising as well, but that's likely what got the first-time buyers.
