I don't remember what the reason actually was—possibly just running up against the budget—but the end of the game goes all crazy pants with the story. Once on the final airship, just put your brain into auto-pilot, because none of the exposition matters at that point. It's really unfortunate that the ending was so sloppily done. Otherwise I really liked the game.
Oh no. I'm going to get Necron'ed again, aren't I?

 No, not exactly. I suppose the nearest analog would be Ultimecia, but even that's not quite right.

Blimey. Wouldn't it be nice if a Final Fantasy narrative remained consistent from start to finish? I think you have to go all the way back to FF6 for a story that sticks to its guns. Anyway, that's another topic altogether.

I believe the issue with FFXII is that Matsuno had to bow out of the game midway through due to health reasons.

It's interesting to think about. Because plot wise I think FFT, the Tactics Ogre games, and Vagrant Story are some of the absolute best in the genre. So if he had been around for FFXII's full production... what could have been...

Gameplay wise, these are also some of the best in genre too I'd say. And FFXII rocks there, but yeah. 10+ hours or more in between story segments was a little too much.

Still making my way through neutral path ending for SMT IV. About the only thing I don't like about it is that I'm stuck wading through a lot of low-level enemies getting all these quests done, which is a bit tedious. Getting all that Macca for the Black Card quest and all of its prerequisites was a bit painful too. Although, seeing the expression on Isabeau's face when she found that manga in Ginza afterward almost made the whole thing worth it. =p

Yeah, it's great. I had it stuck in my head for a few days last week. The variation of it from Blasted and Infernal Tokyo is good too.

I imported the 4 disc OST when it came out a couple weeks back. Totally worth for just the cover alone. Music is just a nice bonus.

Finally finished up SMT IV, got the neutral ending, and I really liked it. Fighting Beelzebub on one of the side quests was a bit of a pain in the butt and I actually found it tougher than either Merkabah or Lucifer. On the whole, a great RPG. Definitely recommend it.

Next game on my plate is KotOR. Played it a bit before but never finished the game. It's time to do something about that. =)
