no. Basic overview:

Dux - original game, of course.

Dux 1.5 - original game, but with bug-fixes, new music and some tweaks to difficulty.

Redux - a remake of the original game in "HD."

Dux 1.1 - original game, with the 1.5 bug fixes but with the original music.

...so again, not sure how many versions are needed.

The sane person in me says, "this is insane."

LOL. It's not super insane for you though, cuz you own zero versions of Dux. So at least you'd have the chance to have/try any of the versions now. I've already owned Dux, 1.5 and have Redux on its way to me now, so I feel like this is not a good purchase for me probably.

You don't need any version of this game. Don't give this jackass any more money.

If you buy Dux 1.1, he is just going to release another version. Then you'll buy that, since its the most up-to-date revision. Then he'll release another one.

Collecting is one thing, but buying into someone who appears to be blatantly taking advantage of collectors who want every shmup.... just don't do eet!

I backed the Kickstarter and received a replacement disc of 1.5 while waiting for the Redux Limited Edition. Funny thing is, I never paid for shipping of the 1.5 replacement, I contacted Hucast saying I wanted a replacement disc, they asked me to pay for shipping, I ignored them because I didn't want to pay for shipping, they sent one anyway. Oops!

So in the end I have the original Dux, which I got off ebay for $28.99 long after the game was sold out, the accidentally shipped to me 1.5 replacement disc, and the Limited Edition Kickstarter release of 1.5 and Redux. Frankly, I'm Dux'd out.

Dux was kind of fun, but flawed and too difficult. 1.5 was an improvement. Redux is my favorite of the three, but the downgrade in graphics makes me prefer 1.5 a bit more.

The Collector's Edition really is a joke. 1.1?!?

I'd much rather invest in Pier Solar for Dreamcast, and The Ghost Blade, which I know is also Hucast but it's a NEW game unlike the many versions of Dux.

Redux is alright via VGA. More fun that Dux.

Sturmwind blows any version of Dux away though.

I think the dude on Shmups was selling Redux for $40, which is like $5 cheaper than buying it off Play Asia.

Honestly, hatred for this stupidity aside, Dux really is at the bottom of the DC shmup lineup. Even if it is a fun romp, I wouldn't consider touching it until I had all the heavy hitters (Border Down, Under Defeat, Ikaruga, Mars Matrix, etc), and even the other obscure but fun romps that outweigh it (Psyvariar 2, Radigry, Trizeal, etc).

Its also at the bottom of the homebrew scene stuff. Pink Bullets, Fast Striker, Sturmwind, and Neo XYX all blow it away.

If you have every other shooter on the system... I suppose Dux might be worth checking out. Maybe.

I don't have VGA on my Dreamcast, so for me ReDux was pretty much right where Dux is. Some things were better, some were very much worse.
