That is one way to do it. There is a way to do it through DeSmuME's own menu as well:
View -> Window Size -> X X=whatever multiplier you want.

It's worth noting PSP has also gotten quite an impressive emulator lately as well:

I might have to seriously consider using these emulators in the future. Wasnt aware of how far along PSP emulation was getting in particular. I own a good amount of DS and PSP games now and could certainly play through them on original hardware easily but having them on a large screen with a controller is tempting too.

It's true. It's really the only way that I can play RPGs, I can't do it on a home console (Maybe I'll pick up some of the good ones for the SNES).

Final Fantasy III
Dragon Quest games for the DS
Paper Mario: Sticker Star It's a 3DS game
Are we counting the Pokemon games?

Wow sadly I'm in the same boat as you guys(don't know why but jumping in mid-series has always bothered me, once I noticed I did it once it bugged the crap out of me). The good thing is I own a nes and hopefully soon a snes so I'm going to play them in their original form then play the newer iterations as soon as I catch up but I have too much of that to do(especially with the fact I play some playstation as well and have a vita and 4 so there's a lot of classic games available on there too which is great :D)

Picked up Children of Mana yesterday looks interesting but haven't gotten a chance to try it out yet.

I need to pick that one up next chance I get.....

Also I don't know if it's on here and because I just thought of it I'll add it in this post: Spectrobes. Not the best graphically, and there are some dry spots but other than that it's a great game(the wii game is even better ;) ).

Thanks for the heads up on this! Given the publisher, I thought it was based on a Disney franchise. In fact, the Wii Spectrobes game is a very well-reviewed, original JRPG. Best of all, used copies of the game are less than $3(!) at Gamestop. I will definitely be picking this game up the next time I see a copy.

It's a really fun dungeon crawler. Probably the best game in the series since Seiken Densetsu 3.

Picked up the entire series a while ago. Spectrobes was under $1 at gamestop, Beyond the Portals was new for $5.84 shipped through Amazon, and Origins was only $3-4 at gamestop. So the whole series only cost around $11-12 it was supposed to be Disney's attempt at a "Pokemon Killer".

Another big plus is that the game is co-op. The second player controls the "pet monster" as it were, during battle. That's the whole reason I bought the game and many other Wii games at that. (I'm something of a co-op addict and the Wii is chock full of local multiplayer goodness).

Since we were talking about DS RPGs and emulation at one point, you guys might find this interesting. There's a mod of DeSmuME that allows for internal high rendering of the graphics... and it's pretty tight.

The modded emulator is here:

Some good screenshots of it in action over at NeoGAF:
