PS3 lives on....
Re: PS3 lives on....
Between discounts and free games I have over 70 digital games on my PS3. Changed over to a 1TB hard drive because of it.

What brand HDD did you go with?wclem wrote:Between discounts and free games I have over 70 digital games on my PS3. Changed over to a 1TB hard drive because of it.

Just whatever Western Digital that was on sale at the time. It has worked like a champ for months now and I have beat on it pretty hard. I had it downloading for about two days straight to get all those games loaded up. Still over half free.Hazerd wrote:What brand HDD did you go with?wclem wrote:Between discounts and free games I have over 70 digital games on my PS3. Changed over to a 1TB hard drive because of it.
People make a big deal over brands of hard drives, I just get the best deal. I may gain or lose a micro second of performance LOL. Seriously though, none of these companies is in business to lose money by selling something that will fail. Some fail, some dont, everyone has an opinion. Just make sure you get the right type and you will be fine. It is easy to do but there are instructions to follow and they must be followed.

If I buy a digital game, can I copy it as simple as drag and drop to an external HDD ? Or is it that if I install a new HDD, I have to redownload everything?

PS store is difficult to browse, its much simple to go on Wikipedia and look up what is available .

You can't store games on an external, just media. If you upgrade your HDD you'll have to rredownload everything. There is a data transfer function for system to system use but that wouldn't help you.RCBH928 wrote:If I buy a digital game, can I copy it as simple as drag and drop to an external HDD ? If you anticipate putting a bigger drive in, then doing so before you get much saved/installed could be a good idea.
You can back up the system to an external drive, but it's not a drag and drop for individual items. It's a complete system backup, which can then be restored to a new drive.

I used my ps3 controller on my mac and there was nothing easier. True plug and play. I used it to play Castle Crashers. On the opposite of the 360 controller that I am not sure if I have to get the USB cable, a USB charger cable, or the wireless receiver which i heard is not reliable. Then you will have to download drivers.
I prefer the 360 controller, but the ps3 was more convenient. Another advantage of a ps3. Note I am using it on Mac OS X.

I prefer the Xbox 360 controller for all PC games that support it. I have a couple of wired 360 controllers via USB that is easy to deal with because I don't have to worry about battery usage. I do have the wireless receiver and never had an issue. It can support up to 4 controllers in one shot and it came with a wireless controller branded in red packaging.RCBH928 wrote:I used my ps3 controller on my mac and there was nothing easier. I have zero experience with Mac gaming but maybe it was easier to connect the PS3 controller. Or maybe the 360 controller isn't compatible. That I don't know.

Mac OSX works fine with any controller that uses standard, usb-compliant, human-interface protocols. A PS3 controller should just be plug and play. A 360 controller requires specialized drivers; I don't believe that MS has made these drivers for OSX. Why would they? It seems that some clever person has written an unofficial driver that allows OSX to communicate with the 360 controller.casterofdreams wrote:I have zero experience with Mac gaming but maybe it was easier to connect the PS3 controller. Any modern Mac (after 2006-2007~ish) can boot windows. This gives the user more options to play more games that don't otherwise run on OSX. This would also make it simpler to run a 360 controller without using 3rd party drivers.
I'm running OSX 10.6.8 Snow Leopard on my 2007 Macbook Pro. This operating system is three major revisions behind the current OSX 10.9 Mavericks. I mention this because I find it ironic that Microsoft supports my hardware longer than Apple does. I can boot Windows 8 on this Macbook Pro no problem. If I want the latest version of OSX, I need to buy new hardware.

Not enough jrpg's if you ask me...especially not in the Tales series which annoys me. We still haven't got a proper english release for Phantasia from what I keep hearing since not many were a big fan of the gba version(even though I loved that game). Though I still need a ps1-3...I grew up in nintendo home(which for my purposes isn't all bad because I've had great games to play (even though I hate how they treat their console once the new one takes hold). But I missed out on playing a lot of games I only played in brief strides as demos or at random peoples houses when I'd go visit or dragged by my dad. Just amazes me though how sony treats their consoles...nintendo and M$ need to take note. But I don't doubt the ps3 has another 5-8 years left before sony finally says it's time to start focusing on 4 and what ever becomes of what will be rumored to be 5 XDZeroAX wrote:I don't even need more games to come out on the PS3. For the past 1.5 years I haven't been able to game at all on my PS3 (with the exception of GTA V), and I seem to have missed like 12 games I would normally buy right away. Not to mention we are finally getting many JRPGs, which means I will have many long games to keep me company
