The thing is incredibly flimsy and because the CD tray basically has a paper flap holding it together, it's really easy for dust to build up in there without even using it. I've had to clean the inside and the wipe the lens a few times with mine.
I dropped one once and is still around working, it has been on repairment a few times but this thing is still alive and kicking. It has at least... 8 years old if not more.

I would call the dust just a minor problem, the consoles should be cleaned once every couple months anyway.

The last model is the perfect PS2 slim to ever exist in my opinion. Id does not heat, is quiet and is really small.

I've got a super slim at the moment and it's noticeably more loud than the previous slim model. My brother has my older slim in his room and our original 60GB died years ago. =[

Consoles are not supposed to move around like iphones and DSs so flimsy hardware should not be an issue because it will just sit there (Unless kids are playings with it) . That is what a "slim" should be called, ps3 slim models should have another name ... ps3 small ? definitely not slim

I didn't know ps3's died(Except for Ylod) , consoles usually live a long life. ex. psx

My extra slim PS3 is, in my experience, quieter than the original slim. Now, this could partly be because I generally don't use optical disks. I can imagine disks being louder on the extra slim because there isn't much there to muffle the sound of the drive.
My B/S/T thread! :)

Do you install the games on the HDD? I thought this was a 360 only option

Probably digital downloads, I would guess. The optical drive on my super-duper slim makes some noise, but as I've mentioned before, it's not very loud. Quieter than my PS2, for sure.

Yeah, the noise is definitely from the disc drive. I never really hear the fans at all.

I will finally get a ps3 today, are there any titles for psx, ps2, or any digital game before Sony starts taking them down like Nintendo did with the Wii?

Is there any difference in offering between the UK and the US store?

Sony says there are 12 games I can get for free if I sign for Playstation Plus: http://us.playstation.com/playstation-plus/

Are these accessible as long as my PS Plus membership is active, or is it signup and download for free for ever?

Any thing worth mentioning about the ps3 I might not know about? Online services? streaming capabilities?

There's plenty offered there, but things I can think of that were taken down were due to licensing (and in some cases put back, like Skullgirls).

AFAIK there is. I know PS+ offerings differ at least.

They're accessible while your membership is active. The games available under it rotate out (at least partly), but the old ones stay usable as well. Basically, if you keep "buying" the free games, you get an ever-growing digital library that is contingent on your PS+ subscription.

PS+ also gives you discounts on other downloads, and those you do keep regardless of subscription status.
