Will I Enjoy Okami if I'm Not Much for Zelda?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

GFL has it pretty spot on. The combat is pretty cool, actually. It's like an action-oriented version of the more strategic combat you'd find in a traditional turn-based RPG.

You know, that intro wouldn't be so bad if you could just speed up the text OR if the "voices" weren't annoying bleepy-bleep sounds. It's not that you wanna skip the whole thing you just don't want to slog through it so slowly.

Though it is still a fantastic game on each system, given the choice I'd recommend grabbing the PS2 version. Despite the seemingly obvious application, the Wiimote doesn't really make painting any easier, and you lose the ability to manipulate the camera freely while moving around. Also, while the Wii does boast sharper graphics and widescreen support, it lacks the paper filter that was applied to the PS2 version which gave the game a large amount of its painting-in-motion aesthetic. The developers compensated by giving it a more vibrant and colourful look, which certainly makes the visual 'pop' but isn't quite in line with the original intention. Though this will be more a matter of preference than a deal breaker.

Don't think Racket has a PS2, Duck.

A thread on GAF just popped up talking about bluriness in the Wii version. No pics so I'm not sure how big a deal it is. Seriously doubt it makes it unplayable as this guys states.

Yeah read about that as well. I did seem blurry but again, to me all Wii games seem a little blurry to me. Doesn't really bother me to be honest.

Odd. The lack of paper-filter was meant to make everything sharper. Aesthetically, then, the PS2 would most definitely be the choice platform now. But if you don't have a PS2, the Wii version is still a fantastic experience.

Actually, there is a part of the ending sequence that I hear is missing from the Wii version. Something I think the developers were upset about. There's something on Wikipedia about that.

I have played the PS 2 version and am told it's better, though I'd imagine the Wii version is still an enjoyable experience

I think it was the credits that were taken out. So that the credits only featured the names of the people who did the port and none of Clover's staff were mentioned. And the games director was upset about that.

I dont remember the full story but it had something to do about the original credits being a FMV clip. But I could be wrong on this.

From Wikipedia:

"The Wii version lacks the final credits movie that was in the PlayStation 2 version of the game, much to Kamiya's regret as it removed the omoi — "a combination of thoughts, emotions, and messages" — from the game: "[The staff roll was] the omoi of everyone who worked on the project, put together in a moment of bliss held out just for those who completed the journey. It was a special staff roll for a special moment. And now it is gone. All of it. ...It’s incredibly disappointing and sad."[63] A Capcom representative noted that the credits, a pre-rendered movie, had the Clover Studios logo within it, and they had "no legal right to use the Clover logo in a game they were not involved with directly". Since they also lacked the source to the credits, they opted to remove them entirely from the game.[63] Ready at Dawn's co-founder Didier Malenfant stated that the Wii version of Ōkami took up much more space on the game media than the PlayStation 2 version, and that the movie was cut in order to fit everything on a single game disk.[64]"

Messed up in not crediting Clover. Surely they could have come up with some other solution than just taking it out.
