Houses of the Holy sounds like a Led Zeppelin cover band playing Led Zeppelin, which isn't a bad thing, but sounds watered down and a bit too radio friendly. Great record, but doesn't have that lewd "sound" I love.
II is my pick unless the live BBC recordings/sessions are up for debate.

Well it's a subjective question, but obviously you're wrong.

Well of course I am. I like drums over singing. That and I wish D'yer Maker would go. go. go away.Stark wrote:Well it's a subjective question, but obviously you're wrong.

It's so hard for me to decide, but it's a toss up between I, II, IV, and Physical Graffiti.
I love the old blues sounds on I (I Can't Quit You Babe, is one of my favorite songs), the hard rock sounds on II (Heart Breaker and Whole Lotta Love), the mystical sounds of IV (Misty Mountain Hop, The Battle of Evermore, Stairway to Heaven), and the dark, depressing sounds of Physical Graffiti (In My Time of Dying, In The Light, Trampled Under Foot, The Rover, Ten Years Gone).
I love them all and it's hard for me to choose. Both those four get the most play from me.

in order, my Zeppelin routine is usually this:
Houses of the Holy
II
Physical Graffiti
IV
III
I
and i really never, ever listen to Presence, In Through the Out Door or Coda.
but i'm more of a sabbath guy anyway, so this is all pretty moot.

I can't really put them in "order" cuz Physical Graffiti, II, IV are like all "my second favorite" Zep album.
I like In Through the Out Door, Coda & Presence quite a bit... though I probably prefer not hearing Sabbathy stuff. Unless we're talking weird Sabbath like "Fairies Wear Boots" and stuff.

Black Sabbath is honestly my favorite band of all time. they have such a vast catalog of awesome material, a lot of it gets overlooked. as far as early 70's blues-based heavy rock bands go, i prefer the Sabbath style of slowing down the blues riffs and creating a dark and brooding atmosphere rather than the more driving, chooglin'-boogie Jimmy Page style riffin'.
plus Sabbath never got sued for plagiarism, so...

I like slow druggy sabbath best.... like the selftitled song.
