Because a lot of you guys seem to have an obsession with ramen and udon noodles, I made a double pack of udon last night.

Here's how I prepped:

2 packs udon, one pack of flavoring (which I assume is salt and food coloring).

In a separate pan I heated about two teaspoons of sesame oil, and added a handful of snow peas, a handful of sliced shiitake mushrooms (I broke down and bought them), and a handful of carrots that were peeled into thin ribbons. I stir fried the veggies for just over a minute.

I added the veggies to noodles and broth, along with around a teaspoon of oyster sauce to each bowl. It was surprisingly filling, delicious, and I will be making it again.

Noodles: $1.00
Snow peas: $0.40
Carrots: $0.20
Shiitake: $2.00
Green onion: $0.30

Pantry items:

Oyster sauce
Sesame oil

Burritos tonight.

Tortillas
Fresh tomato
Fresh Avocado
Green Onion
Cheddar cheese
Black Beans with cumin
Refried beans
Cilantro
Brown rice
Chipotle peppers in adobo
Green chiles
Hot sauce
Sour cream

It's a make it your way meal.

I fucking love Bojangles.

Bojangles is so amazing, dude. Perfect after a night of drinking, too.

Yeah dood! Bo's is excellent hangover food. What do you like to get there? I usually go for a chicken/cheese biscuit and fries w/ gravy.

I always thought soba noodles were way tastier than either ramen or udon. Udon in particular is really dull in itself.

Last night my wife was craving a shrimp boil so we made enough to carry over for dinner tonight. Sadly the money was not there to have sausage in there aswell as the shrimp (stupid cost of shrimp going up recently). But that combination of potato, onion, corn, shrimp, and old bay, does make for a good night. Couple that with fresh french bread and post dinner Baku Baku on the Saturn, and I am a very happy camper.

Yakisoba (by soba I assume you're meaning the same thing) is in a whole 'nother league over regular ramen and udon.

And I agree with you about Udon, it really needs added ingredients to be worth eating. It's more bland than chicken noodle.

Living in the South, I get a lot of gripes when I mention that I don't care for shrimp. They're too expensive, not fun to clean, they're too expensive, usually flash frozen, too expensive, have little flavor, they're too expensive, people can never seem to cook them properly, and did I mention they're too expensive?

At least to me, only 10ct shrimp, head on, are worth buying and eating. Eat what fits your fancy, that goes without saying, but I've never understood the appeal of shrimp. I love seafood, and love oysters, which to me taste like I'm swallowing a bit of the ocean. Shrimp tastes like a flavorless prawn (a very expensive flavorless prawn). But that's my palette.

Fried shrimp is an absolute waste of shrimp. Popcorn shrimp could be deep fried chicken chunks and I wouldn't be able to taste the difference. Boiled shrimp (if the shell is on and poop still in) is kind of gross but edible. Steamed shrimp usually tastes rubbery.

That said, I love shrimp shells. They're full of flavor and make a great broth for a great gumbo. And I have had some good shrimp in the past; I had full shrimp in a curry sauce, and by far the shrimp head/brains was the best part of the dish. I went through three water bowls if I remember correctly.

But I can't justify buying shrimp at the price it's at, especially when it isn't fresh shrimp. That, and after cooking shrimp your kitchen will smell like shrimp, for days on end. Cockroaches of the sea they are.

tldr, schhhramps bees 'spensive.

Come now Luke, you know if the wife really wants it, there is a good chance of it happening. That and I love shrimp, but like you said they are just ruddy expensive. My goal on dinner most nights is around $5 a head. So after tonight, this will have worked out to be right on point.

Nothing better than just the Cajun Filet biscuit and some seasoned fries. But if I'm feeling crazy (or need a major pick-me-up in the morn) I'll get a Sausage and Egg biscuit as well.

I wish I could like the hash browns, but they're for the birds. Way too onion-y for me.
