It's as if they simply Google searched to find games with a poor reputation and just went with it.
Back the actual topic..... I'd have a tough time picking top five. My "holy trinity" is Final Fantasy VI, Chrono Trigger, and EarthBound. I'm not sure what would occupy slots 4 and 5. Skies of Arcadia, Tales of Symphonia, Ogre Battle 64, Ys IV: The Dawn of Ys, Betrayal at Krondor, and Arcanum are all strong contenders.
Oh and Final Fantasy Mystic Quest kicks ass. Haters gonna hate.

Just out of curiosity Bone, have you played any 32 bit RPGs that might work their way up on the list for you? I know you said that you sat out that period of gaming, and it was my favorite, so I'd be interested to know what games stood out to you from that era looking back as someone playing them now.BoneSnapDeez wrote:The X-Play video sucked because there was no thought put into it. EDIT: Should have said OTHER 32 bit RPGs (since Ogre Battle 64 should probably go in even though it is Ogre Battle 64).

Re: Top 5 RPGs
I really enjoy Albert Osyssey, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Lunar 1 & 2 (I know they were Sega CD games, but I prefer the PS1 versions), the Saturn ports of Ys I & II, Tales of Destiny, Grandia, and yes, Final Fantasy VII. There were some great PC RPGs from that era too, like the D&D games.Ben wrote: Just out of curiosity Bone, have you played any 32 bit RPGs that might work their way up on the list for you? I still have many games to play.

Re: Top 5 RPGs
Hm..top 5 rpgs that I've played
1) Final Fantasy V
2) Final Fantasy VII
3) Charles Barkley Shut Up and Jam Gaiden
4) Demon Souls
5) Dark Souls
I've actually not played a lot of the Souls games, but from what I've played they're better than most other RPG's I've played.
Chrono Trigger and Earthbound have honorable mentions, it's been too long since I've played them to know whether I'd add them or not.
Other games that I haven't played or played enough that may make the list
1) Phantasy Star IV
2) Mother 3
3) Fallout 2
4) Planescape Torment
5) Ultima 4-6 and 7
6) The Last Story
7) Shin Megami Tensei 3 & 4
8 ) Persona 4
9) Panzer Dragoon Saga
Quite a few tactic games as well.

Joke aside, I have always wanted to play these. Even though VII is not one of my favorite RPGs, or even favorite FFs, it was the game that got me hooked on the genre, to the extent of completely ignoring all other genres for several years.
My expectations are low. Before Crisis is supposedly about the Turks before the events of 7, though, which sounds pretty cool. Its also the most difficult game on the list to play, unfortunately.

You forgot to list the movie, dunpeal. Swap out 7th Saga and your list is perfect.
It should count. Jrpg's are just 50 hour movies anyway.

Re: Top 5 RPGs
I figured Advent Children just didn't drag you through the mud long enough to make the list.
I should have put Mystic Quest instead of The 7th Saga. At least 7th Saga is decent.

Re: Top 5 RPGs
Here is my non-controversial list, in alphabetical order:
Final Fantasy VI
Lunar Silver Star Story Complete
Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga
Panzer Dragoon Saga
Secret of Mana
Since we are counting Zelda II - which I love - I considered placing Castlevania: Symphony of the Night - which I also love - on my list. That game seems more like an action-adventure game with RPG elements, however; so I ultimately decided to leave it off.
