Persons you would invite to dinner, lunch, breakfast...

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Persons you would invite to dinner, lunch, breakfast...

Post by General Chaos »

As inspired by my own response in the "do you read" topic, I thought I would entertain this experiment and ask of us racketboy members who we'd invite to dinner, if we could in fact invite any persons from history to a dinner party (living or dead).

Let's assume language barriers are magically a non-issue, and that our dining table will seat no more than ten.

I will start with my partial list.

Marcus Aurelius
Geoffrey Chaucer
Albert Einstein
Mel Brooks
Ayn Rand
Larry David

I need to add some more female guests in an effort to avoid appearing completely misogynistic.

Either way this dinner party would be a disaster in terms of actual conversation between guests.

Well there are a few I'd like to talk to... but I wouldn't have them all at the same time because well... that'd be to much info to consume at the same time...

Like I wouldn't stick Ralph Nader, Vonnegut Jr. and Euler all at the same table. I mean come on, Nader on his own would be brain pounding. Then begin the genius that is Euler in and the imagination of Vonnegut talking to himself of all things. It'd just be a cacophony from hell.

Then factor in that their are a few that'd I want to bring in just so I could smack them upside the head. Like Nietzsche, "Hey fucktard, you know that you wrote all these book that for generations people will misinterpret and quote making my brain pop and I rip my copy of "Twilight of the Idols" in half. In all the text I've read I never took Nietzsche as a Nihilist... well not in the traditional sense of nihilism.

Good point. It could be a week long feast of knowledge, food, and general insanity.

I'd like to play poker with Albert Einstein, Issac Newton, and Stephen Hawking.

I would probably invite the top ten Suicide Girls this month. Who the hell wants to hear a bunch of intelligent dudes babbling about "things that matter" when you could have a table of gorgeous women? :)

There's a ton of people that I'd love to be able to have conversations with, but in reality, I would feel either intimidated by my relative lack of knowledge and/or would feel like the questions I would ask would be something they have been asked a millions times.

Now, I think it would be a completely different situation if I happened to work with said individual on a daily basis and was able to casually discuss random happenings/topics with them -- watercooler-type talk.

People that come to my mind...
Shigeru Miyamoto
Yu suzuki
Bill Gates
Sergey Brin/Larry Page
Seth Godin
Kevin Rose
Jim Cramer
Jeff Bezos
Merlin Mann
David Sirlin
and a girl (other than my wife) to round things out, Cali Lewis

I'd say Steve Jobs, but there would be some major intimidation there...

Seth Green
FDR
Abraham Lincoln
Mark Twain
Albert Einstein
Marie Curie
Belisarius
Winston Churchill
Gene Roddenberry
Isaac Asimov
Comics, RPG's, miniatures, and now retrogaming? I guess its time to learn to go without eating...

I'd say Steve Jobs just to ask him if he learned marketing speech writing from a tupperwear salesman and infomercial hosts alike.

"It slices, it dices, it's the innovation of the new century. It's edible and flame retardent, you can even feed it to your dog. It's the iMaAss and everyone is dieing to get their hands on it!"

Sorry Steve, don't speak. Come up with your marketing ideas and then send someone else out the door to talk before I hang myself.
