Opinions on Final Fantasy XIV ARR?

Very nicely produced, as per usual with SE. Has a good number of throwbacks/fan service (possibly in part because it was easier to just update FFXI enemy models). Story arc that was in when I last played wasn't too bad, though voice work was iffy if present, and often not.

Game mechanics are mostly derived from more successful WoW-era MMOs. Heavy on vertical progression/iLevel, and specific gimmicks/strategies in boss fights.

I think it depends a lot on what (if anything) you might compare it to, and how you prefer to play. It's not hard to pick up and start playing, but it will force you to group up for dungeons, and endgame is pretty much just that. Obviously, as a relatively new MMO, content is scarce compared to more mature games.

Basically, I liked it up until I got to endgame stuff, which got old fast. I don't doubt it'll get better and more varied as they update it more though.

I enjoyed WoW until I got to end-game and a few of my MMO loving buddies have been hunting for a new MMO so I have been thinking of jumping in. A bit sad to hear that the combat is WoW-esque but I'm not sure I should have been expecting anything else.

I just beat Thief II! I was on the verge on my seat for this whole last level, it's one of the most tense games I've ever played.

I'm working on a review of it so I don't want to say much other that I don't know if I should give it a top score despite its flaws or accept them. It's a bit dated in places and some of the levels are lacking but when it's good it's so good I think I'll be very kind to it.

PD: There's a fanmade campaign that was very well received so I think I'll give it a whirl
