So I was wrong about The World Ends With You

Post by General Chaos »

I feel obligated to retract some earlier statements I made about TWEwY. I said the teen angst and art style was too much for me, no matter how good the gameplay turned out to be. Well, having finally devoted some time to the game I've reversed my opinion and while I still think there's definitely some teen drama going on, the art design is actually quite interesting and the dialogue not nearly as obnoxious as I first thought.

Not to mention the game is...well, really awesome.

So there, now that's off of my chest and I can go back to playing.

Told 'ya
My problem was is that I eventually lost interest just like I always do with RPGs -- even with the greats like Chrono Trigger.
I need to get the DS version of Chrono Trigger -- that might help me get back into that one -- maybe that and a Together Retro installment.

So how far into TWEWY are you?

I have the same problem, but Chrono Trigger is very much immune to it. How exactly do you get bored with a game like that? The pacing is excellent.

I didn't get tired of it necessarily -- it's more that I was emulating it on my living room media center and then it became inconvenient to play it on there and I got "out" of it.

Well not too far, actually--just far enough to have started using the clothing and food systems, which I really, really like. The food system is what Contact's could have/should have been. Once I'm into an RPG I almost always stick with it. The problem for me is actually getting to the point where I'm convinced it's worth my time.

Here's a little (well, more like a BIG) confession: I've never been able to get into Chrono Trigger. Like you though, I plan to give the DS version a good try. My hope is I'll discover it lives up to its massively positive reputation.

Yeah it was a solid game. My only problem was that i don't really understood the ending. It left me with many questions. I don't know if that is because the plot it's full of holes, i am dumb or both.

I just couldnt get into it when I played a friends copy, FFCC Rings of Fate was more my style. I will say it is a very pretty game though, and I really loved some of the enemy designs, the combat just didnt click. If yall like it this much maybe I should give it another shot.

man I really loved this game. Anyone who has been to Shibuya for fun will be really enjoy the location and similarities. I for one liked the story alot, although Joshua sucked so bad it pissed me off. That all works itself out by the end though. Still for me and alot of friends this was one of our games of the year. AAA

Well if you don't like the combat it might be a different story for you. I actually do like the combat so it makes it much more enjoyable. If I don't like a combat system in an RPG (or any game for that matter) I won't/can't stick with it.

I played it, I understand why others would love it, but it just wasn't my thing.

I respect it for trying something different (something Square Enix seems to have difficulty doing recently) but I wasn't keen. I loved the style, but the battle system was a bit off to me. It's one hell of a step in the right direction that's for sure.
