How is that trivializing his death? People mourn in many different ways and expressing that through art is certainly legitimate. You may not agree, but his role as Egon was by far his most popular and memorable, so it's no surprise that fans are reaching out in that direction. I applaud anyone taking the time to create something to celebrate the man's life.

To people who have zero clue who he was and what he stood for, sure. You have me there.

In all honesty a better fitting sketch would be Ramis and Hudson kicking Murray in the nuts while giving Dan the finger, and Harold also fingering Weaver' puss in the process.

Not like the guy and I shared a Slushie together, but I can say that he would hate, absolutely hate to remembered especially at his death as "Egon".

Ah yes, that would be a much happier, classier way to remember him that would resonate with the average person.

I think it is interesting that we did not create a thread commemorating Lou Reed's death or Frederick Sanger's death and that this thread is almost twice as long as the thread commemorating Nelson Mandela's death.

I dont know who Lou Reed was, or Frederick Sanger, and i would consider Nelson Mandela a big deal in Africa, but not so much the US. I dont know much about what Mandela did either.

Also Ghostbusters was a huge pop culture staple of the 80's, with the movies/cartoon/toys, with alot of us being in our late 20's and 30's, "Egon" is well known as one of them.

Mandela is controversial figure, maybe people just avoided that thread, rather than start a flame war? But nothing is controversial about loving Ghostbusters!

FYI: Lou Reed was a member of the Velvet Undergriound and arguably one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century. Frederick Sanger was a British biochemist who won multiple Nobel prizes for his work, which is fundamental to modern biochemistry (i.e., DNA sequencing, etc.).

 Another person who doesn't get Ramis' humor. He wasn't classy and he could have gived a flying fudge about "resonating with the average person".

It's because "Egon died" is a meme.

So why didn't you create threads for them?

Or for Allan Stanley, NHL Hall of Famer(died Oct. 28, 2013)?

Or Marc Breaux, choreographer for The Sound of Music, Mary Poppins, and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang(died Nov. 19, 2013)?

Or for David H. Hubel, neurophysiologist and winner of the 1981 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine(died Sept. 22, 2013)?

Or Daurene Lewis, the first black female mayor in Canada(died Jan. 26, 2013)?

Or Donald A. Glaser, physicist and winner of the 1960 Nobel Prize in Physics(died Feb. 28, 2013)?

Or Fred Kavli, founder of the Kavlico Corporation and The Kavli Foundation, and awarded the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit(died Nov. 21, 2013)?

Because I, like every other member of this community, did not care enough to do so, and I am merely observing who and what we, as a community, think is important.
