Im not much of a praying man but....

Post by ninjainspandex »

I could really use some right now. A few weeks ago I was on a ski trip with my parents and my dad took a little tumble he actually blacked out for a few seconds. He was a bit dizzy for a couple days. I told him that he probably had a concussion and should really go see a doctor, but he was stubborn and didn't want to miss any days of skiing and insisted he was fine, Over the following weeks he seemed very listless and exhausted and started walking with a limp. My dad is a workoholic and refused to go see a doctor still but finally mom convinced him to go to the doctor and the doc immediately ordered an MRI. It showed an 11mm hemotoma in his brain and now he needs brain surgury. The surgeon says this is not like a brain hemmorage and his chances are very good. But im still scared shitless stuck here in the ICU family waiting area. His surgury is shedualed tommorow morning. Ive never asked for a prayer before in my life but if Id appreciate it if I could get some for my dad.

I'm not a religious man, but you have my thoughts. If the surgeon is confident, then I'm sure things will work out fine. If my nearly 91 year old great Aunt can be doing as well as she was last weekend after the surgery she had, then I'm sure a stubborn dad can as well with some medication to make him relax. :)

aww man. that sucks.

its always hard going through these things. If you need some place to talk, you know you're welcome to say something here.

Neglecting going to the doctor is bad. But we are always hesitant to do it.

We accept advice, yet sometimes in the back of our heads we dont like going to the doctors.

Not to mention the financial situations involved with this. Sometimes we fear the cost of things. But money is no concern when it comes to health. We can try to pay how we can.

I have a disabled father too. So there's that looming feeling comes around sometimes.

but this here is about you. talk. we'll listen.

Thanks man, my dads actually a surgeon himself (eye surgeon) so he is on the up and up on who is the best brain surgeon to go with. And he told me not to worry that its just a simple surgury. But I'm still terrified of losing my dad. I feel like im in some bad dream right now.

The hardest part for my dad is he doesn't want people to think he is getting too old. You see he is one of the most prominent retinal surgeons in Wisconsin and he will be turning 75 in a couple months and he still practices. His greatest love is being a doctor, and I can never imagine him being retired, he would be miserable. He is the hardest worker I ever met. He is more worried right now about being out of the office for 5 weeks and losing patient referrals than the actual surgury. I love my dad but I'm affraid he is going to work himself into the grave. He puts in 12 hour days 5 days a week and sees over a hundred patients a day. I love my dad so much but he needs to take it easy and put his own health and wellbeing before his practice.

I will be sending all my good thoughts towards you and your family man. I know how it is to see a hard working father falter and the frustration he experiences. I hope that everything goes right and that he experiences a speedy recovery!
