Yeah heard of this one, would be good for someone wanting to learn game development.
Re: Fuzebox: Open source 8-bit game console
i really want to learn how to make some old school style games, but i have no idea where to start... i would really like something like this but its too far out of my league anyway XD

Interesting, it looks like the goal is to shift the focus away from having to figure out the intricacies of drawing and making sound and focus on tight game design. So I wouldn't have to worry about figuring out how to move a sprite across the screen; there would be a nice function to do so.

I first saw this a while back (beginning of the year some time??). It looked very interesting. I don't have anywhere near the skill for this sort of thing, but I'm wondering if anyone is releasing demos/games for it other than the author yet?
Re: Fuzebox: Open source 8-bit game console
Embarassingly, my dream is to create my own 16-bit retro console and make games for it. Not to compete with the PS3 or anything but as a niche product for people who wish they still made games for their genesises and sneses.
I keep considering buying something like this to learn how to do it but just waching the vid on that site that showed a pic of some schematics makes me think I'll never figure it out (then there's having to learn to program for it too!).

Yeah, personally, I'd be more excited about a 16-bit system than an 8-bit.
Also, playing the devil's advocate -- why doesn't somebody just make NES or SNES homebrew? That way you could run them in emulators... or develop flash carts to go with them....

There are flashcarts for the NES and SNES, but the homebrew scenes have seem to taper off in recent years - or they have changed forums
Re: Fuzebox: Open source 8-bit game console
There is NES homebrew out there. The only game I've heard of is Solar Wars but I'm sure there is more than that. Honestly I was thinking of making a RPG in 8-bit style or maybe even using NES type dev kits.racketboy wrote:Yeah, personally, I'd be more excited about a 16-bit system than an 8-bit.
