Did you play the original Lords of Shadow game? The thing I am most excited about will be the continuation/completion of the story and if it had the exact same gameplay from the original it wouldn't matter to me. Although I found the original to be unique in it's own right and not the God of War clone most made it out to be.kelsoanim wrote:Sad to hear the game is getting middling scores. The previews made it seem like there was enough new and different to make it exciting. Why is it so hard to make good 3rd person action adventure / hack and slash games anymore? I know there is Devil May Cry, Metal Gear Rising: Revengence but that seems like all there is these days. I wonder if Castlevania will make a turn for the better with the next developer to take the torch.

Main problem the original had was the pacing - it took way too long to get to the point where you had both kinds of magic and abilities to go with 'em, versus the capturing beasts stuff and so on (which was tedious I thought). It was an easy game to write off even if you'd put 6-8 hours into it...'cause it took that long just to really get going

I think this is fair criticism. I liked it from the beginning, but didn't love it until towards the end.isiolia wrote:Main problem the original had was the pacing - it took way too long to get to the point where you had both kinds of magic and abilities to go with 'em, versus the capturing beasts stuff and so on (which was tedious I thought). Yeah, I played the game for a couple of hours. I guess I need to put some more time into it to let the mechanics open up a bit. I do enjoy the presentation values of the game, it has nice graphics and music (even if it's not in a very Castlevania style). I guess I am just getting bored of this long range swiping style hack and slash. I want to play closer combat with shorter whips or swords and other shorter range melee weapons, complimented by the secondary throwable sub-weapons. And I don't want so many long juggling combos. Castlevania combat (and I guess most 16 bit hack and slash game combat) to me is more measured close range stuff where you have to plan your attacks more carefully. I'd like to see that implemented more into 3D with level designs that reflect and support that. Maybe that is just a retro gamer pipe-dream.
