It is only worth it if you have a PAL copy of Shenmue 1 as well so you can carry over your save data. If you don't, yeah I wouldn't say it is worth it.

ehh. transferring your US data to PAL is a bitch but it's doable, some friends pulled it off with a bit've effort...i just took the stock stuff 2 gave me, it sucks but it's more than a fair tradeoff to lose that dub, my opinion!

There is, but I am not gonna go through the trouble. I just got a boot disc and PAL copies.

man, was reading thru an old EGM last night - cover story: "Sega Strikes Back!" which was when Sega was launching the program where you got a $200 check for signing up for SegaNet for 2 yrs. SegaNet was apparently $22/mo, but unlike something like XBLA which is dedicated only for the game side, you could use SegaNet as your primary ISP as well back then. I have to say, if that was today I'd jump at the chance. But alas, things are not so simple now w/ cable provider bundle deals and various online services.

They talked about how SegaNet was an ISP built for gaming. And how at the time (late 2000) less than 25% of Americans had broadband/DSL so they felt like focusing on an online infrastructure that was built around games that required only 56k was a leg up on the competition.

Oh and the other thing was while it was marketed as "free Dreamcast," it literally was just a $200 check. The idea being that if you were buying your DC then you'd either get it free, or have an extra $200 to spend on games. I mean... that's a crazy deal right? Think about that in terms of today. "Sign up for 2 years of XBLA and we'll refund the price of your Xbox One." Crazy right?

lol!

Today i was going to kill 20 minutes before lunch, so i fired up Sturmwind for the first time in a couple of months, and ended up playing for 2 hours. I'd completely forgotten how awesome it is, even if very occasionally i lose my ship in the chaos and get hit. Definitely will be sinking more time into it over the coming weeks!

Only played a few times online back in the day, nfl 2k and it was unplayable. Lag on every play. Of course it was dial up but mostly everything was.

why?
Well, if the decisions makers feel that it was a smart decision to give a free dreamcast for 2 years subscription with their ISP is profitable, then we can only imagine what other horrendous business decisions they made that made Sega quit the hardware market.
