Right off the bat you're already dealing with cheap hits from enemies with guns. I remember seeing in a youtube video that you can nullify or reflect shots with your weapon, but apparently you don't start the game with that ability. Lame
I'm not a fan of cheap hits, especially this early in the game. That's not what I personally consider polished gameplay
Remember The Red Star on PS2? You could go through that whole game without ever taking a hit if you had the skills. THAT'S polished game design.

I agree that cheap hits are not polished gameplay, but I disagree that this game has cheap hits. You can avoid all of the beginning enemies' fire and as the enemies get tougher you get abilities to deal with them. The game starts with it being difficult to avoid all enemy fire, but I think if you get good enough you can.
