Oh hey, I love 2007! Can't wait to get The Orange Box, I've been waiting for a proper console port of HL2 for years.

Chances are that few or none of those launches will sell the system to the non-typical demographics that served to propel the Wii's sales to the level they were. I don't think there's any doubt that the core Nintendo audience just needs stuff like Smash or Mario Kart to justify the system. It's a lot more the folks who bought a Wii for Wii Sports or something, and are now happy playing games on their iPad instead.

So, in that sense, the Wii U has failed to maintain the Wii audience.
Yeah, that's exactly what I mean. I just wish it was given a chance though. ZombiU showed exactly what the system could be capable of (the integration and use of the tablet controller and additional screen was excellent), but due to a mixed response and lacklustre sales, it meant other opportunities for cool exclusives were tainted.

Yes, I get that it was sarcasm. I just don't like using blue text.

I think Nintendo got arrogant again and thought their idea of unique controllers will continue to succeed in addition to casual games that get non-gamers excited . They did not realise the fad that their system was and its not backed by people who are really into videogames , they also didn't take into consideration the competition from iPad, iPhone, Samsung devices, and the fact that PS4 prices are not that far off (+$100 / Prices from Amazon) which adds a ton of graphics power, storage space, and multimedia capability. The PS3 was double the price of the Wii.

The good news is that good games are a software issue, and you can always build the software. Nintendo is not late to put out exclusive head-turning games with the cash they made from the Wii. They just can buy studios that put games that people are after and making them exclusive for the Wii U. The question is will Nintendo put out those games or not? Only time will tell.

In recent news, PS4 is only a million away from matching Wii U sold units, which I am not sure if such news will have an impact on Wii U future sales or developer support for the system.

Actually I think it is only 500K from it right now. Sony just released a notice that their sell-through at this point is 5.3mil and the last Nintendo (Dec I think?) was 5.89mil.

Also, I just bought a PS4 from Amazon and got it hooked up last night!! Started downloading the free games, but haven't tried any of them yet.

Sony's number is units sold, while Nintendo's is units shipped, so the numbers are even closer than they appear.

I think once Sony surpasses Wii U sales, they are going to make fun of Nintendo in ads which will increase the damage of the Nintendo/Wii U public image. Sony has been giving Nintendo a hard time ever since they got into the videogames market. Sales are like this
PS1: 100m 64: 30m
ps2: 150m NGC: 25m
ps3: 80m Wii: 100m

I always saw Nintendo as the King of videogames, but with PS2 alone matching the combined sales of NES+SNES+NGC , I think the world is ready to announce the new king of consoles. I think Nintendo are really regretting ditching Sony for Phillips .

Then again, there will always be people who say that Sony and Microsoft do not make money off their consoles and Nintendo profits more than they do even with less sales...so, I can't argue with that because I do not really know the numbers

Good lord, that was more than 20 years ago... they might have regretted it during the PS1 era, but do you really think anyone at Nintendo is pulling their hair out over that now, three generations later? There was obviously a place for another machine to fill the gap as far as another home console goes, so if not Sony, another company would have stepped up to fill that role eventually.

I have to disagree, there are very little number of companies that have the power of Sony willing to invest so heavily in a market dominant by Sega and Nintendo, in fact only Sony and Microsoft did, two of the super rich companies with very long term plans. Sony's and Microsoft's investments make other attempts like Atari Jaguar, 3DO, Neo-Geo, and Turbo-Grafix look like a joke.

No one today is pulling his hair at Nintendo, but the stock holders probably are pulling their hair. They created their worst enemy. Thats my opinion...

Actually, Sony were looking for a way into the video game market anyway, working with Nintendo- the market leader - made sense.

Everyone seems to paint the Nintendo/Sony disagreement as Nintendo being jerks, but it goes both ways. From my understanding Sony put in a clause into the contract that said they would own the rights to the games published for the platform, which is a pretty major thing to claim. Nintendo were having none of that.

These issues have a lot more depth than the common internet knowledge likes to recount.
