why is everybody badmouthing the werehog i bought the unleashed game and i must say Sega has done a brilliant job look at Mario nobody complained with sunshine but he has a water pump on his back

link turned into a wolf nobody complained

Mario turns into boo, and bee Mario in galaxy nobody complained!

so why payout sonic for doing something different the action stages are good fun and break up the game play and the mix between 3D and 2D i like,
there is quite alot of speed, light combat and robotnik has a lot of new inventions like he did in the Megadrive/Genesis games!

Why complain IMO this is the Sonic game we have being waiting for if sonic stuck to the same formula constantly people would get bored so why accept everything Mario does new, why didnt anyone go OMG A PLUMBER IN SPACE WTF LOLZZZZ 2/10

would we be happy if mario galaxy looked like a nes game with sidescrolling action! everyone would scream

because Nintendo do EVERYTHING right...*drooling with sarcasim*

Actually I remember a lot of folks hated Mario Sunshine too. The whole "WTF does Mario need a water cannon for?"

But if you wanna talk Sonic Unleashed, here's the big thread we've been doing it in:

Yeah, but this IGN article has been made as a direct response to Unleashed and how they think it's doing everything wrong when really they've done a lot of things right, hence why I brought up those clips. They've started to take the 2.5D thing into play, but i don't think they need to make an entirely 2D game to make a good game, just a solid game with no time stretching gimmicks. I'd be fine with playing a shorter Sonic game if it had nothing but levels like the daytime ones in Unleashed.

Listen, you are clearly very young. You don't understand what Sonic used to be like. There are standards here that Sega will never be able to meet. Sonic does not belong on 3D. His character design and attributes can't even function in 3D. I know that we've seen Mario and Zelda and Metroid go 3D with massive success, but Sega, even in it's prime, never had the same skills as Nintendo. They made up for that with a lot more original ideas and a better understanding of an alternate audience.

Of course, today, Sega is even far less talented than that. There's really no hope for them. Not only do they lack the skills, I think they also lack the influence to make a good Sonic game happen. For example, I don't think they will ever get a composer with the ability to match the kind of music the Genesis series had. I don't think they have the kind of marketing power to even properly catch the interest of us old school fans, assuming they even could put out a good Sonic in the first place. It could spread by word of mouth, but it would still be a retail failure.

An for the record, everything I've seen of Unleashed just looks like the same old crap. I don't see how rotating the camera 90 degrees to the right suddenly makes it old school. They did this exact same thing in the remake of Green Hill Zone in Sonic Adventure 2, and it played like shit. People seem to be forgetting that.

Also everyone in the universe hates Mario Sunshine with a passion. Everyone but me. I think it's a fantastic entry as well as a technical showpiece. It looks better than almost any Wii game, besides Galaxy. I enjoyed the water play, and I enjoyed the very much refined Mario 64 gameplay. I even chuckle at the cutscenes and and general characters. It's a charming game. It's not a timeless epic struggle of good vs evil. It's very much a side-story kept on the down-low like Wind Waker was to OoT, and sometimes that's exactly what I prefer.

What are you talking about? I rememeber it otherwise.

Ok so it's true sidescrolling at the start and small bits, and the rest is a 45 degree angle compromise. Close enough.

Let's set things straight. Even if Sega made the best Sonic game in the world, the media would say its crap just because its not made by Myiamoto nor Hideo Kojima.

I suppose that would be why titles such as Grand Theft Auto IV, Gears of War 2 and LittleBigPlanet have all received immense amounts of critical acclaim this year?

Though I ended up disliking Sonic and The Secret Rings, I honestly thought it had the germ of the idea of how to do Sonic well in 3D. I'm not entirely sure how that germ could be expanded into something more playable and fun, as it might just be an interesting concept that'd do well as a bonus level but little else. Frankly, I'd just like the franchise to be handed over to a new developer of a completely different pedigree and seeing what they can do with it. These 'How To Fix Sonic' articles focus on the individual points that are debatable at best, when really I think all Sonic needs is time and fresh perspective.
