What was the last movie you've seen?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Are you freaking kidding me?!?!?!?

Yeah no-one is freaking out about THIEF, or freaked out about DmC or Tomb Raider.

See my edit, which was almost immediate.

 . The gaming industry has made us expect such artistically bankrupt entertainment, that we call new movies/games/works of art, new IPs .....it is sad though isn't it? You don't get anything new today that can't be turned into a franchise.

I mean you do have some outliers such as Duke Nukem Forever, but gamers are usually drooling at the idea of a new GTA.
With the exception of Duke Nukem, it sounds like you're describing sequels, not reboots.

Any time there's a new development team working on an existing franchise, I'd say that's a reboot.

Being fair, how many things couldn't be turned into a franchise with sufficient motivation?

I suppose that's one way to look at it, though I think of a reboot more in terms of how long it's been since the previous entry in the series or franchise, and how different or similar the new characters and story are.

Like Super Mario World and Mario 64? Asking to make sure I'm understanding you correctly.

Exactly. Longer span of time between the two games, with much more pronounced differences.

I would think it to be any retelling of the same story, but differently. For instance, Tomb Raider, or the canned FPS MegaMan game (which was gonna be awesome....just saying). I think it is when they try to re-imagine it in a different light.

A good example is that I do not consider Wind Waker to be a zelda reboot, even though the game itself looks drastically different than previous incarnations. Now if They tried to go back and make a more story oriented version of the original Zelda...that would be a reboot.

Definitely a valid point.
