Emulation vs Hardware
Emulation vs Hardware
What's your guy's stance on this? I've started dabbling with emulation a lot more in the recent weeks and am thinking about selling most of my console games and making the switch. I'd like to still collect the original hardware for my handhelds because smartphone emulators don't cut it for me. It would free up a lot of the money I would normally pure into console games.
Re: Emulation vs Hardware
Considering where you are I would have thought the answer would be pretty obvious.

Re: Emulation vs Hardware
For me emulation is for ROM hacks, translations, arcade games that never got console ports, and exceedingly rare games/consoles. I prefer the real deal for everything else.
Keep in mind that 5th gen and up emulation has still yet to be perfected.

This is probably a noobish question but Is playing burned disks emulation?

From what I've heard concerning Sega CD games, and some 3DO games, no. But I've never burnt a sega cd game (and I really should as my copies are old).oxymoron wrote:This is probably a noobish question but Is playing burned disks emulation?
I don't emulate, so there you go.

I usually play mine emulated, it's way more convenient. Also, many older games are long out of print, so I hardly lose sleep over not paying for them.
As for bootlegging new games, well, I'd rather not.

Hm, I don't think so, at least not in the scenarios I am thinking.oxymoron wrote:This is probably a noobish question but Is playing burned disks emulation?
Like if you rip an image of Shenmue, put it on a disc and play it on your DC - there is nothing pretending to be a Dreamcast since you're actually using one. It probably is not considered emulation.
Unless emulation is defined by ISO/ROMs, which I don't think it is necessarily. I could be wrong since I never bothered to look up the technical terms, if there are any.

Have you seen my games beaten lists in the past four or five years? I haven't even scratched the surface of my PS2 collection yet. My poison is playing "retro" games on the original console.
